Revision Configuration Management (RCM) V5.0 for OpenVMS Alpha

                  -----------------------------------------

      More Information
	----------------
For more documentation on RCM, refer to RCM$DIR:RCMVMS_V5_UG.TXT or to:

	http://soggey.ilo.cpqcorp.net/products/rcm/index.html (internal to HP)

        or

        http://www.support.compaq.com/svctools/

                  -----------------------------------------

	Requirements
	------------
To run the RCM Data Collector you need:

	* If system has OpenVMS Alpha V7.3-2 and HSZ or HSG controllers, ECO
VMS732_FIBRE_SCSI-V0100 must be applied. This ECO fixes an OpenVMS
bug which can cause the SAN Command Scripter utility (in RCM) to hang
           the system.
	* OpenVMS V6.2-1 or higher. If installing on OpenVMS V6.*, apply the
           VMS62TO71U2_PCSI-V0200 patch first.
           See: http://ftp.support.compaq.com.au/ecos.phtml?eco=VMS62TO71U2_PCSI-V0200
	*  NETMBX,TMPMBX,OPER,CMKRNL,DIAGNOSE,SYSPRV,SYSLCK,PHY_IO,ALTPRI,WORLD,
           BYPASS privileges.
	* The RCM PCSI installation kit.
	* DECevent installed on AlphaServer systems with FRU4 support.
	* Approximately 5000 free blocks for each node selected.
	* To collect HSG information, the Command Console LUN (CCL) should be
enabled by the Array Controller command
	   SET THIS_CONTROLLER COMMAND_CONSOLE_LUN.
	* If running OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-2, it is important to have the latest
patches installed, in particular, the VMS712_PTHREADS-V0300 patch.
If this patch is not installed, the data collection from HSZ/G
devices may fail with an error similiar to the following:

	   %DCL-W-ACTIMAGE, error activating image CMA$TIS_SHR
	   -CLI-E-IMGNAME, image file $1$DKC0:[SYS0.SYSCOMMON.][SYSLIB]
	   CMA$TIS_SHR.EXE
-SYSTEM-F-SHRIDMISMAT, ident mismatch with shareable image

	* To collect SAN Switch data, you must have Compaq's TCPIP installed
because the switch collection uses the TCPIP utility
           TCPIP$SNMP_REQUEST.

                  -----------------------------------------

	Installation
	------------

To install the RCM Data Collector, do the following:

RCM V5.0 uses PCSI as the installation method.

	1) Decide where you want to install RCM. Usually you need to install
RCM on only one node in a cluster. RCM can collect data from all
nodes provided the installation directory and collection directory
are accessible from all nodes in the cluster.

	2) To install RCM use the following command:

	   PRODUCT INSTALL RCM /HELP/DESTINATION=dev:[dir]/SOURCE=dev:[dir]

/DESTINATION points to the area where you want to install RCM.

Note that the installation process will create a subdirectory [.RCM]
in the destination area and defines a system logical RCM$DIR pointing
	   to this area.

/SOURCE points to the directory where the .PCSI kit is located. For
OpenVMS V7.*, if /SOURCE is not given, the current directory is
	   searched for .PCSI kits.

                  -----------------------------------------

Summary of the steps required to collect configuration data with RCM:
	---------------------------------------------------------------------

      1) Go to the RCM$DATA directory ($ SET DEFAULT RCM$DATA) and enter this
         command:

         @RCM$DIR:RCM_START <configfilename>.CFG

where <configfilename> is usually the node name.

      2) If a schedule for RCM collections has been set up and an
         immediate collection is required use:

         @RCM$DIR:RCM_START -now

      3) To check the status of an RCM Collection use:

         @RCM$DIR:RCM_STATUS

      4) To stop all RCM_Collections use:

         @RCM$DIR:RCM_STOP

                  -----------------------------------------

	Changes from V4.2-579 to V5.0-588
	---------------------------------
There is a new option, [EVA DATA COLLECTION], in the RCM Configuration file
which controls collection of EVA SAN Switch data. To collect EVA data, set
this option to Y. You must also create a file, RCM$DATA:EVA.INI, specifying
the EVA SAN controller data. Follow the format shown in the file:
        RCM$DIR:EVA_TEMPLATE.INI.

	Changes from V4.0-467 to V4.2-579
	---------------------------------
	1. Fixed problem with 'partid' variable on VAX systems. Initialized
	   'partid' to -1. PTR 91-21-72.

	2. Put RCM$STARTUP.COM in SYS$COMMON:[SYS$STARTUP] rather than
SYS$SPECIFIC[SYS$STARTUP] so that all selected nodes can define RCM
	   logicals at startup. PTR 91-21-73

	3. Modified RCM_SYSMAN_STARTUP_<node>.COM so that RCM_START is invoked
via a detached process rather than inline. This is required so that
RCM does not hold up the reboot process when the system reboots.
There was a 10 minute wait in the previous version, to allow other
Cluster members time to reboot. The 10 minute delay is now part of
the detached process and will not delay the reboot. PTR 91-2-71.

	4. Added code to prevent %DCL-W-INVRANGE error in RCM_PROPATCH.COM.
Some .exe files caused this cosmetic error with f$cvui. PTR 91-21-76.

	5. Added the facility to use custom FTP scripts to transfer the RCM data
to HP and/or to a local ftp area.

	6. Updated CT5 kit to CT5150. Includes greader utility.

	7. Added Tape information PTR 36-4-1021

	8. Updated VMS Version in SHOW CLUSTER output to show full VMS Version.
	   PTR 91-22-268

	9. Prevented installation of standalone RCM kit if WEBES V3 is
           installed. PTR 36-4-1321

       10. Increased Disk column width in Software section. PTR 91-21-86

       11. Added option to send only LIF data off site. PTR 36-4-1383

       12. Added option to use DECnet for Local transport. PTR 91-21-91

       13. Fixed problem of 12-deigit serial numbers being truncated to 10.
           PTR 91-21-94

       14. Added '-thisnode' switch to allow collection on this node

       15. Changed method of getting Serial Number back to SHOW CPU/FULL.
           PTR 91-21-105

       16. Included V1.0A of SAN Command Script CLI utility

       17. Included RCMVMS.PDF in kit - Adobe Acrobat version of RCM User Guide

       18. Add 'rcmscript -f subsysdata' and rcmscript -j subsysdata'.
           PTR 91-21-117

       19. Don't connect to $2$GGAx - reserved for Tape devices. PTR 91-21-118

       20. Check if MAIL$INTERNET_TRANSPORT is defined - don't use smtp%.
           PTR 91-21-121

       21. Fix for change in 'show cpu/full' output in V7.3-1. PTR 91-21-122

       22. Add code for KGPSA Firmware revision PTR 91-21-124

       23. Allow hp.com as valid email address for TAM (8-May-2002)

       24. Fix minor bug with FRU.EXE. Make sure its linked on correct OpenVMS
           version. 91-21-125

       25. Updated CT5 reader to CT5160_OVMS, 36-4-1663

       26. Changed installation directory for RCM when installed via WEBES

       27. Added option to collect SAN Switch data.

       28. Change ownership of all RCM files to SYSTEM (91-22-781)

       29. Added requirement for ALTPRI and WORLD privileges (for WEBES)

       30. Fixed bug in HSZ/HSG code - controller commands were not shown in
           output. (V4.1-544 Nov 2002)

       31. If HP TCPIP V5.1 ECO 3 or later is installed, use the Customer
contact email address as the reply-to address. This is a
work-around for the problem of rejected emails from unregisterd DNS
domains. Older versions of TCPIP do not support the TCPIP$SMTP_FROM
           logical.

       32. PTR 91-22-892 Eliminate possible SYSMAN duplicate file error.

       33. PTR 36-21-139 fix bug, must be in RCM$DATA

       34. PTR 91-21-140 email was address truncated to 30 -- now allow 60 chars

       35. check RCM$TOP:RCM.DIR exists before 'set security'

       36. check for '.' after '@' in email before define tcpip$smtp_from

       37. PTR 91-21-141 - allow multi-word community string in SAN switches

       38. PTR 91-21-142 remove -r switch from tcpip$snmp_request because of tcpip bug

       39 RCMSCRIPT, SORT should use POS:51, SIZ 10 not POS:50, SIZ 10 & Show
           RCMSCRIPT -f 'device'

       40. PTR 91-21-143 check for DSN$SYSTEM:WORLDWIRE$STARTUP.COM (MFM)

       41. Updated CT5 reader to CT5170_OVMS

       42. Removed all WEBES-related code. RCM V4.2 is no longer a component part of
WEBES but WEBES will need to be installed for CT5 systems.

       43. The SAN Scripting Utility is now included in the RCM kit. This is used to
collect data from HSV110 storage controllers. To use this, set
[EVA DATA COLLECTION] to Y in the RCM configuration file and create a file,
RCM$DATA:EVA.INI, containg access details for the SAN Appliance. Follow
           the format shown in RCM$DIR:EVA_TEMPLATE.INI.
