VAX Wide Area Network Device Drivers, V1.1B

          Dear Customer,

This cover letter includes information not found elsewhere in
the VAX Wide Area Network (WAN) Device Drivers documentation.
Please read this cover letter before you install or use the VAX
          WAN Device Drivers V1.1B software.

          Reason for This Release

          This release provides:

o New versions of the drivers that fix all known problems.

o Support for all current VAX processors. See the System Sup-
port Addendum (SSA 29.64.xx) for full details of the proces-
             sors supported.

o Support for the DEC WANcontroller 620 (DSF32). This syn-
chronous device runs on the VAXft Model 310 and provides
             fault tolerant synchronous communications.

Please note that this release uses the VAX WAN Device Drivers
V1.1 documentation set. The Release Notes and the DSF32 manual,
which are provided with the kit, are the only new documentation
          for this release.

                                                                         1

          The DSF32 Device

Customers using the DSF32 device should read the Release Notes
for V1.1B, and should use the `WANDD Failover Set Manager'
manual for information about DSF32 management and configuration.
This manual and the Release Notes can be found in SYS$HELP, held
          in the following files:

          o SYNC011B.RELEASE_NOTES

          o WANDD$FSM_MANUAL.PS

          o WANDD$FSM_MANUAL.TXT

Select the appropriate file format for your printer and print
out a copy of the Release Notes and the `WANDD Failover Set
Manager' manual. Please note that the manual is available in
          text and PostScript[R] format.

          DMR11, DMV11, KMV1A, KMS1P and KMS11 Devices

The VAX WAN Device Drivers product supports many different syn-
chronous communications devices, some of which overlap in func-
          tionality. The DMR11, DMV11, KMV1A, KMS1P, and KMS11 synchronous
devices have been replaced by newer devices. Consequently, VAX
WAN Device Drivers will not provide drivers for these syn-
chronous devices at the next major release. This is part of
a program to rationalize the range of synchronous communications
options supported. However, Digital will continue to support
customers who experience problems with these devices.

Customers using DMR11 devices should consider moving to Ethernet
          and the DECrouter 2000.

Customers using DMV11 or KMV1A devices should consider moving
to DSV11 devices, while customers using KMS1P and KMS11 devices
should consider moving to DMF32 devices.
