Accounting Chargeback   *      1.2 Registering Your Software License  A            To use the Performance Advisor software, you must have D            registered a license on the system or cluster node. Valid            licenses include:              o  DECPS-PA              o  VPA               o  SPM   >            On a newly licensed node or cluster, you must first@            register a License Product Authorization Key (License@            PAK) using the License Management Facility (LMF). The?            License PAK may be shipped along with the kit if you @            ordered the license and media together; otherwise, it  '      1-2 Preparing for the Installation                  G               is shipped separately to a location based on your license                order.  H               If you are installing the Performance Advisor as an updateF               on a node or cluster already licensed for this software,E               you have already completed the License PAK registration                requirements.                                                                             H                                       Preparing for the Installation 1-3                 B            If you are installing prerequisite or optional softwareD            along with the Performance Advisor, review the PAK status@            and install the PAKs for any prerequisite or optional?            software before you install the Performance Advisor.   B            Digital recommends that you register the license beforeA            you start the installation. Registering before instal- A            lation allows you to use the Installation Verification D            Procedure (IVP) during installation. The installation canC            complete without the license, and you have the option to C            use the IVP after installation. However, the Performance A            Advisor software will not operate without a registered             license.   <            To register a license, first log in to the systemC            manager's account, SYSTEM. You then have a choice of two ,            ways to perform the registration:  B            o  Invoke the SYS$UPDATE:VMSLICENSE.COM procedure. WhenD               it prompts you for information, respond with data from               your License PAK.   C            o  At the DCL prompt, enter the LICENSE REGISTER command @               with the appropriate qualifiers that correspond to&               License PAK information.  =            For each cluster node on which you want to use the_C            Performance Advisor, you will need to register a license D            on that node. This is sometimes done during softwareCD            modification or patching operations or for other reasons.>            Unless deleted, these files will interfere with the?            operation of the Performance Solution software being ?            installed. The following example@               displays the value for the WSMAX system parameter:  )               SYSGEN> SHOW WSMAX <Return>   H               After checking the parameters with the SHOW command, enterE               the EXIT command at the SYSGEN> prompt to return to DCL                level.  G               1.6.3 Calculating the Values for Global Pages or Pageletsh!               and Global Sectionsn  D               During the Performance Advisor installation, VMSINSTALH               creates a new copy of the DCL command tables that includesH               the ADVISE command. For VMSINSTAL to complete this processB               successfully, your system must have available enoughB               unused global sections and global pages or pagelets.  H                                      Preparing for the Installation 1-11    m            C               ________________________Note ________________________t  ;               If you do not ensure that your system has thea;               necessary global pages or pagelets and globaleA               section SYSGEN parameters for the installation, thec?               DCL tables may become unavailable until rebooted..  C               _____________________________________________________f  =            To determine the number of global pages and globaloC            sections that the DCL tables at your site require, enterl"            the following commands:              $ INSTALL <Return>eB            INSTALL> LIST SYS$LIBRARY:DCLTABLES.EXE/GLOBAL <Return>  <            The output generated is similar to the following:  1         DCLTABLES;219    Open Hdr Shar      Lnkbl   %                System Global Sections_  B         DCLTABLES_001  (06000000) PRM SYS  Pagcnt/Refcnt=484/21296  ?            In this example, the DCL command table uses 1 globalOC            section, as indicated by the single entry DCLTABLES_001. B            It also uses 484 global pages, indicated by the Pagcnt.B            Therefore, to replace your DCL command table to includeE            the Performance Solution ADVISE command, this system needs E            a minimum of 1 unused global section and 484 unused globale            pages.   C            To calculate the number of unused global sections, enteru!            the following command:_  *      INSTALL> LIST/GLOBAL/SUMMARY <Return>5               Summary of Local Memory Global SectionshC      299 Global Sections Used, 32316/12684 Global Pages Used/Unusedt  B            In this example, there are 299 used global sections andB            12684 unused global pages. Because this system requires@            484 global pages to replace its DCL command table andD            12684 are available, the GBLPAGES parameter does not need            to be increased.   (      1-12 Preparing for the Installation                 B               To check the current value of GBLSECTIONS, enter the-               following sequence of commands:   .               $ RUN SYS$SYSTEM:SYSGEN <Return>*               SYSGEN> USE CURRENT <Return>/               SYSGEN> SHOW GBLSECTIONS <Return>h  E               These commands produce output similar to the following:l  K       Parameter Name    Current   Default   Minimum   Maximum Unit  Dynamic K       --------------    -------   -------   -------   ------- ----  -------2E       GBLSECTIONS          500       128        20      4095 Sectionss  C               To make the calculation for this system, subtract therC               number of used GBLSECTIONS from the number of currents'               GBLSECTIONS. For example:u  -               500 - 299 = 201 unused sections   C               Because this system required only 1 global section to D               replace its DCL command table and there are 201 unused@               global sections, the value of the SYSGEN parameter7               GBLSECTIONS would not need to be altered.   ?               If you need to change the number of global pages, F               pagelets, or sections, invoke AUTOGEN after entering the?               new parameter values in SYS$SYSTEM:MODPARAMS.DAT.   A               1.6.4 Changing System Parameter Values with AUTOGEN   @               Use the AUTOGEN command procedure to change systemB               parameters. AUTOGEN automatically adjusts values forF               parameters that are associated with the values you resetF               manually. To change system parameters with AUTOGEN, edit!               the following file:u  &               SYS$SYSTEM:MODPARAMS.DAT  E               To change a parameter value listed in this file, deletewH               the current value associated with that parameter and enter               the new value.  A               To add a new parameter, add a line to the file thathD               includes both the name of the parameter and its value.               For example:                 WSMAX = 8096  H                                      Preparing for the Installation 1-13 r               E            To modify incremental parameters such as free global pagesNB            or pagelets and global sections, use ADD_parameter. TheA            following example increases the global page setting by             2000:              ADD_GBLPAGES = 2000  C            Note that when you set the page file quota, do not use asE            value that exceeds the amount of page file space available,            on the system.S  D            After you make all your changes, exit from the editor andC            execute the AUTOGEN procedure to recalculate your system E            parameters. The following command recalculates your system -            parameters and reboots the system:t  8            $ @SYS$UPDATE:AUTOGEN GETDATA REBOOT <Return>  A            When you specify REBOOT, AUTOGEN performs an automaticgA            system shutdown and then reboots the system. Any userse?            logged on to the system are immediately disconnectedhA            during the shutdown. The automatic reboot puts the newO(            parameter values into effect.  @            The AUTOGEN Utility automatically adjusts some of theB            SYSGEN parameters based on the consumption of resources<            since the last reboot. If you do not want to take>            advantage of this automatic adjustment, include the<            NOFEEDBACK qualifier on the AUTOGEN command line.  D            For more information about using AUTOGEN, see the OpenVMS$            System Management Subkit.  2            1.6.5  Setting Dynamic Parameter Values  D            Use the System Generation Utility (SYSGEN) to set dynamic@            parameter values. Dynamic parameters changed with the@            SYSGEN WRITE ACTIVE command become active immediatelyD            without any need to reboot your system. Rebooting returnsC            the dynamic parameter values to their previous settings._  B            After you change the dynamic parameter values, completeB            the installation before rebooting the system. After youB            finish with the installation, you can reset the dynamicC            parameters to their previous values or let them be reset :            automatically when you next reboot your system.  (      1-14 Preparing for the Installation    e            F               The dynamic parameter values for the Performance Advisor&               are listed in Table 1-2.  E               If the dynamic parameter values on your system are lessIG               than the values in Table 1-2, use the following series of E               commands to change the values.
