DIGITAL Read Before Installing or Using VAXset Version 10 AV-HB17L-TE Whether you are a new or a continuing VAXset customer, take some time to read the following information about your product. Your VAXset kit consists of a group of programmer productivity tools, which aid in the development of system or application software on a VMS system. VAXset comprises the following prod- ucts: o VAX DEC/Code Management System (CMS) o VAX DEC/Test Manager o VAX Language-Sensitive Editor/Source Code Analyzer (LSE/SCA) o VAX DEC/Module Management System (MMS) o VAX Performance and Coverage Analyzer (PCA) Please take a moment to look over the following information about your product. Installation Information Requirements To install your VAXset kit, you must have the following: * SETPRV privilege, or CMKRNL, WORLD, and SYSPRV privileges * VMS Version 5.3 or higher Additional requirements can be found in the individual product installation guides and cover letters. During installation, you should use one of the following two methods: o To install all the products in the VAXset kit, specify a wildcard character (*) at the prompt as follows: * Products: * VMSINSTAL lists the products to be installed and issues a message like the following for each product: Beginning installation of CMS V3.4 at hh:mm You will be prompted to answer questions generated by the VMSINSTAL procedure for the specific product being installed. The corresponding installation guides detail these questions. VMSINSTAL informs you when it finishes installing each prod- uct. It also informs you when it begins to install the next product. After VMSINSTAL finishes installing the last prod- uct, you will receive the following message and prompt: Enter the products to be processed from the next distribution volume set. * Products: At this point, press CTRL/Z to end the installation proce- dure. ©Digital Equipment Corporation. 1990. All rights reserved. 2 o You do have the option of installing each product in your VAXset kit separately; however, due to product dependencies, you must install CMS before both DEC/Test Manager and MMS. See the individual product installation guides for specific installation instructions. Release Notes Information The release notes for each of the products that comprise the VAXset kit contain information about new features, corrected errors, performance enhancements, documentation errors, restric- tions, and incompatibilities. You can read these release notes following the installation of each product by typing: $ HELP product RELEASE_NOTES The word product is one of the following VAXset tools: o CMS o DTM o LSE o SCA o MMS o PCA Previous versions of this product do not need to be installed before this one. NOTE If you are using the VMS DECwindows interface, please refer to the release notes for each VAXset product for important VMS performance tuning information. 3 Contents of This Kit o Indented Bill Report (BIL) and Bill of Materials (BOM) Please read the BIL and BOM enclosed in this kit, and check to see that all items listed there are actually in your kit. If your kit is damaged, or if you find that parts of it are missing, please call your Digital representative. o Media Depending on the type of media you have ordered, you will find one of the following media sets in this kit: * One 1600-bpi magnetic tape * One TK50 cassette * One CD-ROM 4 o Installation Guides The following installation guides provide the information you need to install each product in your VAXset kit. These installation guides are automatically provided when you order media. * VAX DEC/Code Management System Installation Guide * VAX DEC/Test Manager Installation Guide * VAX Language-Sensitive Editor/Source Code Analyzer Instal- lation Guide * VAX DEC/Module Management System Installation Guide * VAX Performance and Coverage Analyzer Installation Guide o Using VAXset This document gives you an overview of each of the VAXset products and describes how to use these products together to create an effective development environment. This book is packaged with each documentation set for each individual VAXset product. o Individual Documentation Your VAXset kit contains documentation for each of the prod- ucts in this kit. Please see the Bill of Materials for a complete list of documentation. Each manual has two Reader's Comments forms at the back so that you can provide us with valuable comments on the quality of our documentation and so that you can report any errors that you may find. o Software Product Description (SPD) Your SPD provides an overview of the VAXset software and its features. Individual SPDs for each product in VAXset are also included. o Software Performance Report (SPR) 5 This form allows you to report any problems with VAXset, provided you have purchased warranty services.
