(Before You Install DEC SoftPC Version 2.2 for
VMS) (AV-PG6YA-TE)
To use SoftPC, you need a SoftPC license for each con-
currently active user. Please ensure that you have the
appropriate license for the software you intend to use.
Licenses can be obtained from a Digital sales representative.
DEC SoftPC Version 2.2 for VMS is the follow-on product
for both SoftPC Version 1.3 and VAXpc Version 1.0. It
contains the following enhancements in both functionality
and performance:
_ Better application performance
_ Better idle detect
_ VT220 support (local or remote)
_ Co-processor support (80287)
_ EGA graphics support
_ Availability on both RISC and VAX
_ File-sharing support
_ High-density floppy formatting support
_ Ability to run on workstations or time-sharing systems
Before you install DEC SoftPC Version 2.2:
_ Check to see that all the items listed on the Software
Bill of Materials are included in the software distri-
bution kit and are undamaged. If any items are missing
or damaged, or if you find any defective media during
the installation process, contact your Digital sales
representative. The first line of the label on each
media item lists the part number you need to order the
replacement item.

_ Be sure to read the online release notes. Step 4 of the
installation procedure allows you to display, print, or
copy the release notes.
_ Carefully read Chapter 3, VMS Installation, in the DEC
SoftPC User's Guide. Familiarity with this information
will help ensure a successful installation.
DEC SoftPC for VMS comes with a warranty as described in the
Software Product Description (SPD) addendum. If the SoftPC
software fails to perform as described in the SPD, fill out
a Software Performance Report (SPR) and mail it to the address
on the back of the form. This starts the problem resolution
process.
If you have a Digital support contract, it remains in effect.
