________________________________________________________________ VMS/SNA, Version 2.1 DIGITAL AV-JQ86E-TE April 1991 ________________________________________________________________ Dear Customer: The VMS/SNA Version 2.1 software is a limited maintenance re- lease. It includes problem fixes and support for new processors. It does not contain any major enhancements or changes. The user documentation has not been updated since VMS/SNA Version 2.0. However, changes pertaining to the documentation can be found in the VMS/SNA Version 2.1 Release Notes contained in this kit. Please take a few moments to read the following information about your VMS/SNA Version 2.1 software distribution kit. o The Bill of Materials specifies the number and contents of the distribution kit. Check to see that all items are in the kit. If any items are missing or damaged, contact Digital Equipment Corporation. o Make sure you have installed Version 5.4 of the VMS operating system. o If you are planning to use X.25 switched virtual circuits for communication between the VMS/SNA system and the IBM host system, install and configure the VAX Packetnet System Interface (P.S.I.) software, Version 4.3. o Contact your Digital service representative to install the VAX communications hardware device you intend to use with the VMS/SNA software (if not already installed). See the Software Product Description for a list of devices supported on your VAX processor. Copyright ©1991 by Digital Equipment Corporation All rights reserved o Printed in U.S.A. Page 2 AV-JQ86E-TE o Read VMS/SNA Installation before installing the software. VMS/SNA software configuration is dependent upon your site- specific IBM configuration; you should have access to the IBM configuration details before you begin the VMS/SNA software installation. o VMS/SNA software uses specific external communications hard- ware (such as modems) that should already be in place. In addition, the installer needs to know the operational config- uration of the communications line (for example, full-duplex or half-duplex). These requirements are explained in VMS/SNA Installation. The VMS/SNA Version 2.1 Release Notes are on line as part of the software distribution kit. These release notes provide software updates not included in the manual set. To access the release notes during the installation, specify OPTIONS N in the VMSINSTAL procedure: $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL SNAVMS021 device OPTIONS N The OPTIONS N keyword allows you to indicate whether you want the release notes displayed, printed, or both. You can also specify the print queue name. Whether or not you spec- ify OPTIONS N, the release notes are copied to the file SYS$HELP:SNAVMS$021.RELEASE_NOTES. Digital Equipment Corporation recommends saving the release notes for the previous version of VMS/SNA, if they are present.
