DIGITAL (tm) Read Before Installing or Using VAX FORTRAN(tm) HPO Version 1.2 AV-PC39D-TE Please take time to read the following information about the VAX FORTRAN High-Performance Option (HPO) product before installing the software. Installation Information This kit contains media and documentation for installing VAX FORTRAN HPO Version 1.2 on the VMS operating system. The VAX FORTRAN HPO Installation Guide/Release Notes (included in this kit) explains how to install VAX FORTRAN HPO and provides a sample installation and IVP. Prerequisite Software VAX FORTRAN HPO Version 1.2 requires the following products: o VMS Version 5.4 or higher; future maintenance releases may require higher versions o VAX FORTRAN Version 5.6 Digital also recommends using the VAX Language-Sensitive Editor (LSE) and VAX Performance and Coverage Analyzer (PCA) to optimize program performance. Both LSE and PCA are available separately or in VAXset Version 9.0 or higher. If you have newly installed VMS Version 5.4 on your system and did not do an upgrade from a previous version of VMS, you should issue the following DCL command either before or after installing VAX FORTRAN HPO (the command requires the SYSPRV privilege): $ LIBRARY/SHARE/REPLACE SYS$LIBRARY:IMAGELIB SYS$LIBRARY:FORRTL,FORRTL2 This command corrects a problem on newly installed VMS Version 5.4 systems that causes the linker to issue informational messages about a "link date-time mismatch" between the FORTRAN Run-Time Library shareable images and the system shareable image library. (The messages do not affect linking or running programs, and can be ignored.) You need to issue the command only once and only on newly installed Version 5.4 systems. The problem has been corrected in VMS Version 5.4-0A or higher. Release Notes Information Release notes for VAX FORTRAN HPO Version 1.2 are available on line as well as in the VAX FORTRAN HPO Installation Guide/Release Notes. To read the online release notes before installing VAX FORTRAN HPO, invoke VMSINSTAL and follow the instructions in the VAX FORTRAN HPO Installation Guide/Release Notes. To locate the online release notes after installing VAX FORTRAN HPO, enter the following DCL command: $ HELP FORTRAN RELEASE_NOTES The release notes describe the new and changed features of VAX FORTRAN HPO Version 1.2, differences from previous versions, corrections, and other topics. This information is of interest to system managers and application programmers. Digital recommends that you read the release notes before using VAX FORTRAN HPO. VMS Version 5.4 New Installation Problem Contents of This Kit o Indented Bill Report (BIL) and Bill of Materials (BOM) Please read the BIL and BOM enclosed in this kit and check that all items listed are actually in your kit. If your kit is damaged or any items are missing, call your Digital representative. o Media If you ordered media, you will find the media and the VAX FORTRAN HPO Installation Guide/Release Notes in this kit.
