                             Before You Install VAX FMS

          This package contains the VAX FMS software, installation in-
          structions, and user documentation. (The VAX FMS software is
          also referred to simply as FMS.)

          Follow these steps to install VAX FMS on your VMS operating
          system:

          1. Read the Bill of Materials enclosed in the transparent plas-
             tic envelope. Check to see that all items listed there are
             in your kit. If any items are missing, contact your DIGITAL
             representative.

          2. Make sure that you have Version 5.0 or later of VMS installed
             on your system.

          Whether you are a new or a continuing VAX FMS user, please take
          some time to read the following information about your product.

          New VAX FMS customers should receive the following:

          o  The media required for Version 2.4 of VAX FMS

          o  User documentation

          o  Supplemental materials and any additionally ordered items

          Continuing VAX FMS customers should receive the following:

          o  The media required for Version 2.4 of VAX FMS

          o  User documentation

          o  Supplemental materials and any additionally ordered items

          Contents of This Kit

          o  Indented Bill Report (BIL) and Bill of Materials (BOM)

             Please read the BIL and BOM enclosed in this kit, and check
             to see that all items listed are actually in your kit. If
             your kit is damaged, or if you find that parts of it are
             missing, call your DIGITAL representative.

          o  Media

             If you have ordered media, you will find the media and the
             VAX FMS Installation Guide in this kit. This guide supplies
             the information you need to install VAX FMS on a VMS system.

          o  Documentation

             If you are a new VAX FMS customer, you will find the follow-
             ing documentation with your order:

             o  VAX FMS Installation Guide

             o  Introduction to VAX-11 FMS

             o  VAX FMS Utilities and Reference Manual

             o  VAX FMS Form Driver Reference Manual

             o  VAX-11 FMS Language Interface Manual

             o  Using VAX FMS on IBM 3270-Compatible Terminals

             If you are a continuing VAX FMS customer, you might have
             ordered one or more of these manuals.

             Each manual has two Reader's Comments forms at the back so
             that you can provide us with valuable comments on the quality
             of our documentation and so that you can report any errors
             that you may find.

          o  Software Product Description (SPD)

             Your SPD provides an overview of the VAX FMS kit and its
             features.

          o  Software Performance Report (SPR)

             Use this form to report any problems with VAX FMS (provided
             you have purchased warranty services).

          Release Notes Information

          The release notes for the latest installed version of VAX FMS
          contain:

          o  A summary of technical changes

          o  Corrected errors

          o  Restrictions

          You can read the release notes before installing VAX FMS by
          invoking VMSINSTAL and following the instructions in your prod-
          uct's installation guide. You can also read the release notes
          following the installation of VAX FMS by typing:

               $ HELP FMS RELEASE_NOTES
