Software Product DescriptionD ___________________________________________________________________D PRODUCT NAME: DEC Distributed Queuing Service for SPD 28.80.03$ OpenVMS, Version 1.3 DESCRIPTIONI The standard OpenVMS queue system enables users to use the OpenVMS PRINTI command to print files on output devices that are attached to the user's local OpenVMS node.E The DEC Distributed Queuing Service (DQS) uses the DECnet networkingG system to extend the standard OpenVMS queue system to enable users to:D o Print jobs on printers connected to systems other than their own, o Show the status of jobs on those systems& o Cancel their jobs on those systems< o Change the specifications of their jobs on those systemsG Any node where a print request originates is called a client. Any nodeH with an attached printer that performs the printing is called a server.I Any node with DQS software can be configured to operate as only a clientF or as both a client and a server. The DQS software does not limit theD number of client or server nodes or queues. The system manager cre-I ates the queues and establishes the correspondence between client queuesE and queues on server nodes. A queue on a server node can accept jobs& from queues on multiple client nodes. FeaturesH The following is a summary of features available in the DEC Distributed Queuing Service software:D o Provides an easy means of printing from systems that do not have
printers.D DIGITAL April 1994D AE-KS63E-TE F o The DQS software can be used in any DECnet networking environment.F Both Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks are supported. DQS3 supports DECnet Phase V fullname functionality.D o The DQS software allows multiple OpenVMS systems to share expen- sive or unique printers.H o The DQS software does not limit the user's choice of printing equip-F ment as it can work with standard Digital symbionts and most user-' written or user-modified symbionts.D o Provides completely transparent support for the following quali-' fiers of the OpenVMS PRINT command:! /BACKUP /BEFORE /BURST+ /BY_OWNER /CONFIRM /CHARACTERISTICS" /COPIES /CREATED /DEVICE /EXCLUDE /EXPIRED /FEED% /FLAG /JOB_COUNT /IDENTIFY /LOWERCASE /NAME /MODIFIED" /NOTE /QUEUE /REMOTE# /RESTART /PAGES /PASSALL! /SETUP /SINCE /SPACE /TRAILER /USERF All other OpenVMS PRINT qualifiers are supported, with slight dif-= ferences that reflect the distributed environment of DQS.F o If the DQS server is temporarily inaccessible when a print commandI is issued, the DQS client will attempt to transfer the job for print-5 ing after the DQS server again becomes available.H o If a printer becomes unavailable, the corresponding DQS server queueD can be configured to direct print jobs to a different DQS server
    queue.D o The DQS software can send notification to the user after a print job has been completed.# 2 E o Additional queues can be added and queue attributes changed with-& out reinstalling the DQS software.I o Additional DQS nodes can be added to an existing network of DQS nodes< without reinstalling the software on the existing nodes.B o The DQS software can be configured to limit access to servers.> o The DQS software can be configured to keep records of use.3 o The DQS commands can be used on non-DQS queues. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS$ Alpha AXP: DEC 2000 Model 300S AXP$ DEC 3000 Model 300 AXP,% DEC 3000 Model 300L AXP,$ DEC 3000 Model 400 AXP,% DEC 3000 Model 400S AXP,$ DEC 3000 Model 500 AXP,% DEC 3000 Model 500S AXP,% DEC 3000 Model 500X AXP,$ DEC 3000 Model 600 AXP,% DEC 3000 Model 600S AXP,$ DEC 3000 Model 800 AXP,$ DEC 3000 Model 800S AXP+ DEC 4000 Model 600 AXP Series,* DEC 4000 Model 700 AXP Series* DEC 7000 Model 600 AXP Series+ DEC 10000 Model 600 AXP Series# 3 VAX Processors Supported: VAX: VAXft Model 110, VAXft Model 310, VAXft Model 410, VAXft Model 610, VAXft Model 612 VAX 4000 Model 100, VAX 4000 Model 200, VAX 4000 Model 300, VAX 4000 Model 400, VAX 4000 Model 500, VAX 4000 Model 600% VAX 6000 Model 200 Series,% VAX 6000 Model 300 Series,% VAX 6000 Model 400 Series,% VAX 6000 Model 500 Series,$ VAX 6000 Model 600 Series$ VAX 7000 Model 600 Series( VAX 8200, VAX 8250, VAX 8300,( VAX 8350, VAX 8500, VAX 8530,( VAX 8550, VAX 8600, VAX 8650,( VAX 8700, VAX 8800, VAX 8810,' VAX 8820, VAX 8830, VAX 8840 VAX 9000 Model 110, VAX 9000 Model 210,% VAX 9000 Model 300 Series,$ VAX 9000 Model 400 Series% VAX 10000 Model 600 Series# 4 " VAX-11/730, VAX-11/750,! VAX-11/780, VAX-11/785& MicroVAX: MicroVAX II, MicroVAX 2000,& MicroVAX 3100 Model 10/10E,& MicroVAX 3100 Model 20/20E," MicroVAX 3100 Model 30," MicroVAX 3100 Model 40," MicroVAX 3100 Model 80," MicroVAX 3100 Model 90,( MicroVAX 3300, MicroVAX 3400,( MicroVAX 3500, MicroVAX 3600,' MicroVAX 3800, MicroVAX 3900+ VAXstation:VAXstation II, VAXstation 2000,$ VAXstation 3100 Model 30,$ VAXstation 3100 Model 38,$ VAXstation 3100 Model 40,$ VAXstation 3100 Model 48,$ VAXstation 3100 Model 76,, VAXstation 3200, VAXstation 3500,+ VAXstation 3520, VAXstation 3540$ VAXstation 4000 Model 60,$ VAXstation 4000 Model 90, VAXstation 4000 VLC; VAXserver: VAXserver 3100, VAXserver 3300, VAXserver 3400,: VAXserver 3500, VAXserver 3600, VAXserver 3602,) VAXserver 3800, VAXserver 3900$ VAXserver 4000 Model 200,$ VAXserver 4000 Model 300,# VAXserver 4000 Model 500# 5 $ VAXserver 6000 Model 210,$ VAXserver 6000 Model 220,$ VAXserver 6000 Model 310,$ VAXserver 6000 Model 320,$ VAXserver 6000 Model 410,$ VAXserver 6000 Model 420,$ VAXserver 6000 Model 510,$ VAXserver 6000 Model 520,$ VAXserver 6000 Model 610,$ VAXserver 6000 Model 620,# VAXserver 6000 Model 630 Processors Not Supported:& MicroVAX I, VAXstation I, VAX-11/725, VAX-11/782, VAXstation 8000 VAX Processor Restrictions:E A TK50 tape drive is required for standalone MicroVAX 2000 and VAXs- tation 2000 systems.D A network interface controller supported by DECnet-VAX is required.# 6 AXP Processor Restrictions:F A network interface controller supported by DECnet for OpenVMS AXP is
