All VAX, MicroVAX and VAXstation processors lised above are supported
subject to the following restrictions:

^ All functions requiring communications with or processing by, a
DTC04-AA module must be executed on a valid MicroVAX or VAXstation
configuration, that is, a configuration containing one or more DTC04-AA
modules. The DTC04-aa hardware is supported only in the BA23 and the
BA123 series of enclosures and only when used with the KA630, KA650 or
  KA655 series of Q-bus processors.

^ The synthesis name pronunciation routines require communications with,
and processing by, a DECtalk DTC01 peripheral, DTC03 peripheral or a
  DECvoice DTC04-AA module.

Processors Not Supported

^ For systems containing a DTC04-AA module, any system containing a
  processor other than a KA630, KA650 or KA655 Q-bus processor is not
  supported.

^ VAX-11/725, MicroVAX I, VAXstation I and VAX-11/782 processors are not
  supported.

Processor Restrictions

^ 64K bytes of available Q-bus I/O memory space for each DTC04-AA module
  installed in the system.

^ A maximum of sixteen DTC04-AA modules can be supported on a single
MicroVAX or VAXstation subject to the following restrictions:

   - The module can be mounted only in a BA23 or BA123 enclosure, or in a
multiple BA23 enclosure such as the DTCAA-CA or the H9642 based
     dual-BA23 MicroVAX systems.

   - The number of available Q-bus quad-width slots and subject to
available power and loading on the Q-bus.

   - The number of adjacent "B" size mounting slots on the I/O bulkhead.
The I/O bulkhead space available on various enclosures limits the
number of Telephone Line Interfaces that can be installed on the
     system.

The following table contains the maximum limits of TLIs and DTC04-AA
modules. The actual number of TLIs and DTC04-AA modules that can be
installed in a system may be further reduced by available Q-bus slots and
power, or by other hardware or software installed on the system:

     System Maximum Maximum
     Enclosure TLIs DTC04-AA

     DTCAA-CA 8 16

     H3490 3 6

     H9642-S 3 6

     BA123 2 4

     BA23 1 2

The DTCAA-CA series enclosures, built from the H3490-E bulkhead and three
BA23 enclosures, support a maximum of eight TLIs; eight TLIs provide
support for up to sixteen DTC04-AA modules.

The H3490 bulkheads are used in the 630QE dual-BA23 MicroVAX systems, the
H9642-S expansion enclosure and various other dual-BA23-based cabinetry.
The H3490 bulkheads support a maximum of three TLIs; three TLIs provide
support for up to six DTC04-AA modules.

The BA123 enclosures support a maximum of two TLIs; two TLIs provide
support for up to four DTC04-AA modules.

The single-BA23 enclosures support a maximum of one TLI; one TLI provides
support for up to two DTC04-AA modules.

The performance of the real-time portions of the DTC04-AA system is
sensitive to processor, VAXcluster and device interrupt latency.
Degradations will be noticed if DTC04 interrupts are blocked by any other
software and/or hardware in the MicroVAX or VAXstation system. A
dedicated MicroVAX system is recommended for optimal DECvoice
performance.

The DTC04-AA module is not distributed, nor shareable, across nodes in
the VAXcluster. The module must reside locally, that is, on the MicroVAX
or VAXstation processor that performs the calls to the DECvoice
libraries.

Other Hardware Required

If a DTC04-AA Q-bus hardware module is installed in the system, the
following hardware is required:

^ The base DTC04-AA DECvoice quad-width Q-bus module.

^ An approved country-specific Telephone Line Interface (TLI), the
CK-DTC04. (The TLI is currently only available for the United States
and Canada.) Each TLI supports up to two DTC04-AA modules.

^ A minimum of 150 megabytes of local disk storage. Digital recommends a
KFQSA disk controller and one or more externally mounted RF71 disks for
ease of storage expansion, separate disk power supply and the inherent
dual-path and dual-host capabilities of the DSSI bus. A minimum of an
RQDX3 disk controller and an RD54 disk is required.

^ A minimum of 8 megabytes of physical memory on any system containing
  any DTC04-AA modules.

^ A minimum of 16 megabytes of physical memory on any system containing
  nine or more DTC04-AA modules.

Block Space Requirements (Block Cluster Size = 1):

Disk space required for installation: 14,431 blocks
								 (7.4 MB)

Disk space required for use (permanent): 14,431 blocks
								 (7.4 MB)

These counts refer to the disk space required on the system disk. The
sizes are approximations; actual sizes may vary depending on the user's
system environment, configuration, and software options selected.

CLUSTER ENVIRONMENT

This layered product is fully supported when installed on any valid and
licensed VAXcluster* configuration without restrictions. The HARDWARE
REQUIREMENTS Sections of this product's Software Product Description and
System Support Addendum detail any special hardware required by this
product.

* V5.x VAXcluster configurations are fully described in the VAXcluster
Software Product Description (29.78.xx) and include CI, Ethernet, and
  Mixed Interconnect configurations.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

VMS Operating System V5.2

VMS Tailoring

For VMS V5.x systems, a minimum of the VMS Required Saveset is required
if the DECvoice software is to be used in a run-time only environment,
that is, no program debugging or development is to be conducted.

To conduct program development with the DECvoice software, a minimum of
both the VMS Required Saveset and Programming Support kits is required.

For more information on VMS classes and tailoring, refer to the VMS
Operating System Software Product Description (SPD 25.01.xx)

OPTIONAL SOFTWARE

The microcode binaries for the DECvoice Software V1.1 Continuous Word
Speech Recognition Software are included in the DECvoice Software kit.
The Continuous Word Recognition Software is a separately licensed
product.

The Continuous Word Recognition Software is licensed on a user/activity
basis. When this product is licensed, a pool of license units are made
available. The specific number of units in the pool varies based on the
specific license purchased. The DECvoice Software deducts a fixed number
of units (100) from the pool whenever the Continuous Word Recognizer is
made active, that is, when loaded into a DECvoice DTC04-AA module. These
units are returned to the pool when the Continuous Word Recognizer
microcode is rendered inactive, that is, when it is unloaded or otherwise
made unavailable. The license unit allocation for the continuous word
recognizer is not processor tiered; it is not based on CPU capacity.
Continuous word recognizer licenses are tied only to recognizer activity,
not to specific DTC04-AA modules.

The isolated word recognizer and the optional Continuous Word Recognizer
are mutually exclusive; they both cannot be used on the same DECvoice
module at the same time. The recognizer in use on a specific DECvoice
module, when both are licensed, can be switched dynamically under the
control of a user program.

Certain versions of these products depend upon a specific version of the
operating system. Refer to the System Support Addendum of the product in
question to determine which version is necessary.

GROWTH CONSIDERATIONS

The minimum hardware/software requirements for any future version of this
product may be different from the minimum requirements for the current
version.
