PRODUCT NAME: DECvoice Software, Version 1.1 SPD 29.97.01

DESCRIPTION

DECvoice Software is a software package containing the microcode and software
necessary to provide a programming interface for the DECvoice DTC04-AA module.
DECvoice includes microcode subsystems for performing various voice-related
tasks including text-to-speech synthesis, speaker independent isolated word
speech recognition, digitized voice storage and playback and North American
telephony control functions. DECvoice Software also supports a separately
licensed continuous word recognizer.

The text-to-speech subsystem support is comparable to the DECtalk family of
speech synthesizers. The digitized speech subsystem supports encoding at 64
kilobits per second (Kbps) u-LAW, 64Kbps A-LAW, 32 Kbps ADPCM and 16 Kbps
sub-band. The isolated word recognition software, licensed as part of the base
kit, and the continuous word recognition software, licensed seperately, are
optimized for native speakers of American English. The telephony subsystem
fully complies with the applicable telephony regulations of the United States
and Canada. The DECvoice is registered with the United States Federal
Communications Commission and the Canadian Department of Communications.

Both the isolated word recognition subsystem voice recognition standard
templates and the optional continuous word recognition subsystem voice
recognition templates contain speaker independent recognition support for the
digits zero through nine, and the words "yes," "no," and often used as a
substitute for zero, "oh". Tools are provided to allow the creation of site
and application specific isolated word templates.

SOFTWARE LICENSING

A license is required for the base product. The base product is licensed
by a traditional license. The list of processors currently supported and
applicable processor restrictions is located in the System Support
Addendum.

The Continuous Word Recognizer License is required, in addition to the
base DECvoice software license, if the Continuous Word Recognition
capabilities are to be utilized. The Continuous Word Recognizer product
is licensed as an Activity License.

This software is furnished under the licensing provisions of Digital
Equipment Corporation's Standard Terms and Conditions. For more
information about Digital's licensing terms and policies, contact your
local Digital office.

LICENSE MANAGEMENT FACILITY SUPPORT

This layered product supports the VMS License Management Facility.

The DECvoice software base product, including the isolated word
recognizer, is licensed by a traditional license.

License units for the base product are allocated on a CPU-capacity basis;
the license is processed tiered.

The license for the Continuous Word Recognizer is an activity license.

Access to the Continuous Word Recognizer capabilities is based on the
number of simiultaneous activities of the recognizer. The Continuous
Word Recognizer software requires a certain number of license units (one
hundred) per activity, regardless of processor. The Continuous Word
Recognizer license provides a predetermined number of units, and thus
a predetermined number of simultaneous activities of the product. As each
activity of the Continuous Word Recognizer is terminated, the units are
returned for use by another application.

For more information on the License Management Facility, refer to the VMS
Operating System Software Product Description (SPD 25.01.xx) or the
License Management Facility manual of the VMS Operating System
documentation set.

For more information about Digital's licensing terms and policies,
