* Requires use of a DWBUA UNIBUS to BI-bus Adapter

# 9600 baud is the maximum supported line speed for multiple interface
configurations. Operation of multiple interface configurations at line
speeds higher than 9600 baud may result in unreliable operation.

Note that a DSV11 synchronous communications interface supports two separate
communications lines.

Processors Not Supported:

VAX-11/782

VAXstation I, VAXstation 2000, VAXstation 3100 Series, VAXstation 3520,
VAXstation 3540, VAXstation 8000

MicroVAX 2000, MicroVAX 3100

Processor Restrictions

Note: An R80/RL02 configuration is required for VAX-11/730 systems.

Block Space Requirements (Block Cluster Size = 1):

Disk Space required for installation: 1,150 blocks
								   (589K bytes)

Disk space required for use (permanent): 750 blocks
								   (384K bytes)

These block counts refer to the disk space required on the system disk. The
sizes are approximate, actual sizes may vary depending on the user's system
environment, configuration, and software options selected.

The VAX 3271 PE requires approximately 10K bytes of non-paged memory for the
first DMF32, DMB32 or DSV11 device; 9K bytes are required for the first DUP11
or DPV11 device. Each subsequent DMF32, DMB32 or DSV11 device requires an
additional 300 bytes, while an additional DUP11 or DPV11 device requires an
additional 350 bytes. Each terminal requires an additional 300 bytes for a
DMF32, DMB32 or DSV11 or 350 bytes for either a DUP11 or DPV11.

When the emulator is running, further non-paged memory is allocated which is
sufficient to accommodate the number and size of the buffers requested by the
user. In addition, each DMF32, DMB32 or DSV11 device uses approximately 4600
bytes of non-paged memory for data transfer. For all five device types, the
VAX 3271 PE adds 24 bytes to the buffer size specified by the user.

CLUSTER ENVIRONMENT*

This layered product is fully supported when installed on any valid and
licensed VAXcluster* configuration. It must be installed once on each VAX,
MicroVAX or VAXstation processor from which usage is planned. The HARDWARE
REQUIREMENTS sections of this product's Software Product Description and System
Support Addendum detail any special hardware required by this product.

In order to configure some product specific attributes that must remain unique
to each system, certain components of the product are stored in the system
specific environment, SYS_$SPECIFIC:[SYSxxx] of the VAX, MicroVAX or VAXstation
processor on which the installation is performed. The remaining components of
the product, including some or all of the executable images, will be installed
common to all accessing systems.

* V5.x VAXcluster configurations are fully described in the VAXcluster
Software Product Description (29.78.xx) and include CI, Ethernet and Mixed
    Interconnect configurations.

OPTIONAL HARDWARE

oo VT2XX or VT3XX terminals

oo VT100 terminals with Advanced Video Option

oo Any of the following terminals or personal computer (with the appropriate
hardware and software) operating in VT100 emulation mode:

    - Rainbow 100

    - DECmate/WPS

    - PRO-325 or PRO-350 (with P/OS Operating System, Version 1.7 and
      PRO/Communications)

The number of VT terminals (or Digital Personal Computers running in VT100
emulation mode) supported by the 3270 Terminal Emulator utility will depend on
application and system loading.

GROWTH CONSIDERATIONS

The minimum hardware/software requirements for any future version of this
product may be different from the minimum requirements for the current version.

The 3270 Terminal Emulator's performance depends on system and line load, the
IBM RO application, and the rate of data entry. Refer to product release notes
or your local Digital office for further information.
