          Read Before Installing or Using Remote System Manager Version
          2.3

          Dear Customer:

          Thank you for purchasing the Remote System Manager (RSM) Version
          2.3 software product. Please read the Bill of Materials (BOM)
          enclosed in this kit and make sure that all the listed items are
          in your kit. If your kit is damaged or is missing parts, please
          call your Digital representative.

          Installation and Release Notes Information

          To install RSM Version 2.3, follow the instructions in the
          Remote System Manager Installation Guide. This guide is included
          in your distribution kit.

                                        NOTE

             At the time the installation guide went to press, an RSM
             backup performance problem (for ULTRIX clients only) was
             being resolved. The resolution to this problem is dis-
             cussed in the release notes. Be sure to read the release
             notes to determine your required actions, if any, related
             to this problem.

          The release notes for RSM Version 2.3 contain information re-
          garding new features, restrictions, warnings, and corrected
          problems. To read these release notes before installation, in-
          voke VMSINSTAL and specify whether you want to view, copy, or
          print the release notes. Refer to the Remote System Manager
          Installation Guide for more information.

          You can install and use RSM Version 2.3 server software on sys-
          tems running VMS Version 5.1 through 5.4 software. You can in-
          stall and use RSM Version 2.3 client software on systems running
          VMS Versions 4.7 through 5.4 software and ULTRIX Versions 4.0
          and 4.1 software.

          The RSM Version 2.3 management server supports RSM Version 2.0,
          Version 2.1, and Version 2.2 VMS clients. Only RSM Version 2.3
          ULTRIX clients are supported by the Version 2.3 management
          server. The management server also supports RSM Version 2.0,
          Version 2.1, and Version 2.2 library and target servers.

          If you are installing RSM Version 2.3 software on a system
          running VMS Version 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 or 5.4 software, you must
          also install an RSM Server or Client Product Authorization Key
          (PAK). If you are installing the RSM Version 2.3 client on an
          ULTRIX RISC system, you must also install an ULTRIX RISC client
          PAK. Please refer to the Remote System Manager Installation
          Guide for more information on PAKs.

          If you intend to use RSM to install VMS Version 5.1 through
          5.4 on systems covered by an update service contract for VMS,
          you must refer to Section 2 of the release notes for further
          information on licensing.

          Documentation

          Only the RSM Installation Guide has been updated for the RSM
          Version 2.3 release. Any references to RSM Version 2.2 in the
          Management and Command Reference Guides also apply to RSM Ver-
          sion 2.3.

          The documentation set for Remote System Manager Version 2.3
          consists of the following manuals:

          -  Remote System Manager Management Guide, Version 2.2

 






          -  Remote System Manager Command Reference, Version 2.2
