This is VAX REMS Version 1.2. This release takes care of prob-
lems existing in version 1.1. This version also has the ability
to interface with the HA3000 UPS, and to start up automatically
when the VAX system is re-booted. A more detailed explanation of
the changes and additions to VAX REMS Version 1.2 can be found
          in the on-line release notes.

          1 Release Notes Information

For a smooth installation, it is recommended that you first
extract and read the release notes before attempting to install
VAX REMS Version 1.2. To do this, follow the instructions for
installing VAX REMS in Section 5 in the Installation Guide,
making sure that you specify OPTIONS N as part of the command
line. For example, if you were installing VAX REMS from the tape
          drive, you might type:

               $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL REMS012 MUA0: OPTIONS N

Then, follow the instructions up to step 4 (Section 5.7), and
select NO when asked if you want to continue the installation.

          2 H731x Preparation

Before installing and running VAX REMS V1.2 on your VAX system,
the H731x units must be running VII.4 of the system firmware.
Determine the firmware version by pressing the <RESET> key on
the H731x keypad. If the unit does not have a keypad, contact
your local Digital Field Service Office for assistance.

When the <RESET> key is pressed, the software displays this

If you do not have the appropriate firmware, contact your local
          Digital Field Service Office.

          3 Cable Requirements

The H731x and HA3000 products all require the same cable to
connect them to a VAX. This is an RS232 cable, part number
BC22D-50, or the equivalent. If you are using a DECserver to
communicate with the H731x or HA3000 products, the RS232 cable
          is still required.

To order the correct cable(s), contact your local Digital Sales
          Office or DEC DIRECT (1-800-DIGITAL).
