        Purpose of This Guide

This guide describes how to install DECpresent on the
VMS operating system. You should review the entire
guide before you start the installation.

        Who Should Use This Guide

This guide is for VMS system managers or others
responsible for installing system software. To
install DECpresent software, you must have access
to a privileged account such as the SYSTEM account,
and you must be familiar with the VMS installation
              procedure (VMSINSTAL).

        Structure of This Guide

The guide has three chapters and two appendixes.
Chapter 1 describes installation prerequisites and
suggestions. Chapter 2 describes the installation
              procedure. Chapter 3 describes postinstallation
tuning and general usage information. Appendix A
shows a sample installation procedure for reference
              purposes.

        For More Information

that you must hold down the key
labeled Ctrl while you press another
key or a pointing device button.

<Delete> A key name is shown enclosed to
indicate that you press a key on
                              the keyboard.

blue-green ink For hardcopy books, blue-green ink
                              indicates information that you must
enter from the keyboard or a screen
object that you must choose or click
on. For online versions, user input
                              is shown in bold.

italic text Italic text represents information
that can vary in system messages (for
                              example, Internal error number).

UPPERCASE TEXT Uppercase letters indicate that you
must enter a command (for example,
enter OPEN/READ) or a response to
                              system prompt. Uppercase letters also
indicate the name of a routine, the
name of a file, the name of a file
                              protection code, or the abbreviation
                              for a system privilege.

                              Preparing for DECpresent Installation

This chapter describes tasks you must perform when
installing DECpresent, and suggests how to prepare
              for installation.

Installing DECpresent is similar to installing other
              VMS layered products. You should:

              1. Take an inventory of the software distribution
                kit.

              2. Make sure your system has the prerequisite
                software and hardware.

              3. Register your DECpresent license according to the
VMS License Registration section in this chapter.

              4. Prepare your system and its users for installa-
                tion.

              5. Print and read the release notes.

              6. Perform the installation procedure and any
                necessary postinstallation procedures.

              7. Resume normal operations after you complete the
                installation.

You should allow approximately 70 minutes for the
installation and 10 minutes to run the Installation
              Verification Procedure (IVP).

        1.1 DECpresent Distribution Kit

              Each DECpresent distribution kit contains:

o A bill of materials (BOM) and indented bills
                report (BIL)

o The distribution medium for the DECpresent
                software

              o Documentation for the product

Media-only kits include the installation guide
                only.

o The Product Authorization Key (PAK)

To ensure that you have a complete kit, check the
kit contents against the bill of materials and the
              indented bills report.

If your kit is damaged or if you find that parts of
it are missing, contact your Digital representative.

        1.2 Prerequisite Software

To install DECpresent you must have:

o A valid VMS operating system configuration running
VMS Version 5.3 or higher, having the VMS Required
                saveset

              o DECwindows installed

To execute the IVP during the installation,
                DECwindows should also be running.

Since DECpresent is a DECwindows application, it can
run in either of the following ways:

o Standalone execution - running the DECwindows X11
display server and the client application on the
                same machine

o Remote execution - running the DECwindows X11
display server and the client application on
                different machines

This requires that DECnet also be installed.

        2 Preparing for DECpresent Installation

For standalone execution, the following DECwindows
components must be installed on the machine:

o VMS DECwindows Compute Server (base kit, which
                includes run-time support)

              o VMS DECwindows Device Support

For remote execution, the following DECwindows
              components must be installed:

                On the workstation:

o VMS DECwindows Compute Server (base kit, which
                   includes run-time support)

                o VMS DECwindows Device Support

                On the remote machine:

o VMS DECwindows Compute Server (base kit, which
                   includes run-time support)

o VMS DECwindows Device Support (optional)

Refer to the VMS Version 5.3 Installation Guide
                   for details.

        1.3 Prerequisite Hardware

              DECpresent supports all hardware configurations
supported by a VMS Version 5.3 system running
DECwindows, with a minimum of 8 MB of memory. See
the DECpresent Software Product Description (SPD) for
              details on supported hardware configurations.

        1.4 Privileged Account

To install DECpresent, you must be logged into an
account that has the following privileges:

              o CMKRNL

              o WORLD

              o SYSPRV

Most system managers install software from the SYSTEM
              account.

Note that the VMSINSTAL command turns off BYPASS
privilege at the start of the installation.

        1.5 License Registration

The DECpresent Product Authorization Key (PAK)
should be registered and loaded before you install
or use DECpresent. The information you need is in
the PAK shipped with DECpresent. The PAK is a paper
certificate that contains data about your license.

If you do not register and load the license before
installing DECpresent, the installation will complete
but the Installation Verification Procedure (IVP)
will not run. You can execute the IVP manually after
the installation by following the instructions in
              Chapter 2.

To register the license, first log in to a privileged
account such as the system manager's account, SYSTEM.
Then choose one of the following procedures to
perform the registration. The second method is faster
              for experienced users.

              o Invoke the SYS$UPDATE:VMSLICENSE.COM procedure.
When prompted for information, respond with data
from your Product Authorization Key (PAK).

                OR

o Issue the DCL commands LICENSE REGISTER and
LICENSE LOAD with the appropriate qualifiers that
correspond to information on the PAK.

For additional information, see the License
Management Facility section in your VMS Version 5.3
              documentation set.

        1.6 VAXcluster Considerations

You can install DECpresent on a VAXcluster.

In a VAXcluster with a common system disk, you can
execute the installation procedure on a single member
of the cluster. After the installation is completed,
each VAX processor can share the same DECpresent
              software.

        4 Preparing for DECpresent Installation

You must check the number of global sections and
global pages on each node in the VAXcluster where you
plan to install DECpresent. Instructions for checking
these values are in the next section.

See Chapter 3 for details about VAXcluster postin-
              stallation instructions.

        1.7 System Quotas

You use the VMSINSTAL command to install DECpresent.
For VMSINSTAL to run properly, there must be
sufficient disk storage space and proper system
parameter settings to accommodate the installation.
This section describes the recommended disk space and
              system parameters.

        1.7.1 Disk Space Requirements

Installing DECpresent requires a certain amount
of disk storage space. Once the installation is
complete, less storage space is required. Table 1-1
              summarizes the storage requirements.

DECpresent includes DECchart Version 1.1, the
Equation Editor, and the CDA Library Version 1.1.
The installation procedure checks to see if these
bundled applications are already installed on your
system. DECpresent does not install these parts of
the kit if they already exist on your system. As a
result, the disk space required for installation may
be less than the amount shown in Table 1-1.

The VMSINSTAL command now has an Alternate Working
Directory (AWD) option. This option directs VMSINSTAL
to create its temporary files in a directory you
specify. This allows you to temporarily use space on
another disk if your system disk space is limited. If
you do not have the recommended disk space available,
try installing using the AWD option.

that the installation will require. The installation
procedure reports the actual number of blocks
required, which will be slightly less than these
values, and may differ from the sample installation
              in Chapter 2.
              _____________________________________________________

                _____________________ Note _____________________

These values apply only to the US variant.
Please see the cover letter for the values for
                all other language variants.

                ________________________________________________

Use the DCL command SHOW DEVICE to determine the
number of free blocks that are presently available on
              the system disk:

              $ SHOW DEVICE SYS$SYSDEVICE

If the disk does not have enough free blocks, delete
              unnecessary files to provide space.

        1.7.2 System Parameter Values

Digital recommends that the system parameter WSMAX be
set to at least 4,100. On a single-user workstation,
it can be set even higher, depending on the amount of
              workstation memory.

The DECpresent executable images and the shared
libraries can be installed using the INSTALL utility.
Table 1-2 lists the minimum required system parameter
              values.

        6 Preparing for DECpresent Installation

              Table_1-2_Minimum_Required_Global_Pages_and_Sections_

              GBLPAGES 4,108

              GBLSECTIONS_________13_______________________________

If GBLPAGES or GBLSECTIONS are below the recommended
values, VMSINSTAL displays a message. Since
installing the DECpresent images and shared
libraries is optional, you can safely continue
the installation. Make sure to adjust these system
              parameters before modifying PRESENT$STARTUP.COM. See
              Chapter 3 for details.

        1.7.2.1 Checking Parameter Values

To check the value of one or more parameters, enter
the following command at the DCL prompt:

              $ RUN SYS$SYSTEM:SYSGEN
              SYSGEN>

At the SYSGEN> prompt, use the SHOW command to
display the value of each system parameter.

After you finish checking parameter values, use the
EXIT command to return to DCL level.

1.7.2.2 Calculating GBLPAGES and GBLSECTIONS Parameter
                Values

The values for GBLPAGES and GBLSECTIONS in Table 1-2
indicate that you must have at least 4,108 unused
global pages and 13 unused global sections available
              for the installation.

To calculate the number of unused global pages and
              global sections in your system:

              1. Use the DCL F$GETSYI lexical function to determine
the number of free global pages and global
                sections:

                $ WRITE SYS$OUTPUT F$GETSYI("FREE_GBLPAGES")
                $ WRITE SYS$OUTPUT F$GETSYI("FREE_GBLSECTS")

                            Preparing for DECpresent Installation 7

              2. If the number of unused global pages is less
than the number specified in Table 1-2, you must
increase the value using the AUTOGEN command
                procedure (instructions follow).

The next section describes the procedures for
changing these values. For more information, refer
to the VMS system management documentation.

1.7.2.3 Changing Parameter Values with AUTOGEN

You use the AUTOGEN command procedure to change
              system parameters. AUTOGEN automatically adjusts
values for parameters that need to be changed.

To change system parameters with AUTOGEN:

              1. Edit the SYS$SYSTEM:MODPARAMS.DAT file:

For example, to increase the setting for the
GBLPAGES system parameter by 2,000, add this line
                to the file:

                ADD_GBLPAGES = 2000

              2. Enter the following command to recalculate your
                system parameters:

                $ @SYS$UPDATE:AUTOGEN GETDATA REBOOT

AUTOGEN performs an automatic system shutdown
and reboots when it has finished. Rebooting your
system makes the new parameter values active.

For more information about using AUTOGEN, see the
instructions on modifying system parameters in the
              VMS system management documentation.

        1.8 System Disk Backup

Make a backup copy of your system disk before you
              install DECpresent.

For more information about backing up your system
disk, refer to the VMS system management documenta-
              tion.

1.9 Displaying DECpresent on Non-VMS Systems

If you plan to display DECpresent on non-VMS
workstations, you must first compile and install
the required video fonts on the display workstations.

For example, suppose you install DECpresent on an
VAX/VMS workstation. If you attempt to display that
software on an VAX/ULTRIX workstation, you will
              receive font display errors.

For information about compiling and installing the
video fonts on remote display devices, refer to
the DECpresent Release Notes, which are copied
to the following directory during the DECpresent
              installation:

              SYS$COMMON:[SYSHLP]PRESENT010.RELEASE_NOTES

You can obtain additional information on compiling
fonts by typing the following command at the DCL
              prompt:

              $ HELP FONT

                                                                  2
        ___________________________________________________________

                                              Installing DECpresent

This chapter describes how to run the DECpresent in-
stallation procedure. You should allow approximately
80 minutes to complete the entire installation.
Before you start installing DECpresent, make sure
your system meets the requirements outlined in
              Chapter 1.

This version of DECpresent supports language
switching. If you have purchased language variants
of DECpresent, you can install multiple language
variants on a single system. You choose which langage
variant to use by selecting the language from the
Session Manager Language dialog box before you start
DECpresent. See Table 2-1 for a list of the language
              variant kits.

Appendix A contains a printout of a typical
              installation procedure for your reference.

2.1 Installing the Video Fonts for the Equation Editor and
            Bullets

Like other DECwindows software products, you
can install DECpresent on one DECwindows system
and display it on another. However, the system
that displays DECpresent must have access to the
              DECpresent video fonts.

You can install the entire DECpresent kit or just
the video fonts. The video fonts are required for
displaying the Equation Editor and for the Bullets
dialog box on a remote workstation. The Equation
Editor allows users to create complex mathematical
equations and include them in their presentations.
The Bullets dialog box allows you to choose alternate
characters for the bullets on your slides.

                                           Installing DECpresent 11

If you are installing DECpresent on a VAXcluster,
install the entire kit. Restart the DECwindows
server on each of the satellite workstations so
they can have access to the video fonts. You do not
need to install the video fonts on the satellites
in a VAXcluster if the entire kit is installed on
the VAXcluster boot node. See Chapter 3 for more
              information.

However, if you plan to display DECpresent on a
remote workstation, one that is not part of the
VAXcluster, you must install the video fonts on the
              workstation.

Similarly, if a standalone workstation user, not
running DECpresent, wants to use either DECwindows
Mail or the CDA viewer to view documents containing
equations and alternate bullets, then the video fonts
must be installed on that workstation.

And finally, users who wish to display DECpresent
on a personal computer must also install the video
fonts for the Equation Editor and slide bullets. See
your PC documentation for the procedures you need
to install the fonts on the PC. For the location
of the video font files on your workstation, see
              Section 3.10.

        2.2 VMSINSTAL Requirements

When you invoke the VMSINSTAL command, it checks:

o Whether you are logged in to a privileged account

o Whether you have adequate quotas for installation

o Whether DECnet is up and running

o Whether any users are logged in to the system

If VMSINSTAL detects a problem during the installa-
tion procedure, it notifies you and asks if you want
to continue. To stop the installation and correct
the problem, enter NO or press the Return key. After
you have made the correction, you can restart the
              installation.

        12 Installing DECpresent

To abort the installation procedure at any time,
press Ctrl/Y. The installation procedure deletes all
files it has created up to that point and exits. You
              can then restart the installation.

Digital recommends that you refer to the section on
the VMSINSTAL command in your VMS documentation set.
In the VMS base documentation set, see the VMS System
Manager's Manual. In the VMS full documentation set,
see the Guide to Setting Up a VMS System.

        2.3 VMSINSTAL Procedure

You must use the VMSINSTAL command procedure to
install DECpresent. Follow these steps to begin the
              installation:

              1. Log in to a privileged account such as the VMS
                system manager's account, SYSTEM.

              2. If a previous version of DECpresent has been in-
stalled on your system, send a message requesting
that all users exit from DECpresent.

              3. Make sure DECwindows is running. If you have not
                previously executed the SYS$STARTUP:DECW$STARTUP.COM
command procedure, do so at this time.

              4. Enter the following command line to run VMSINSTAL:

                $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL PRESENT010 device-name OPTIONS N

where device-name is the device specification for
the distribution medium, for example, MUA0: and
where kit-name is the language variant DECpresent
kit. If you have purchased one or more language
variants, Table 2-1 lists their DECpresent kit
                names.

Specifying OPTIONS N indicates that you want to be
prompted to display or print the Release Notes.

                Specifying OPTIONS AWD=device:directory allows you
to specify an alternate device that VMSINSTAL will
use as the temporary working directory.

                ____________________ Caution ____________________

If the device:directory specified in the
AWD option already exists, the installation
procedure will delete it and create it again.

                ________________________________________________

If you do not specify the AWD option, the
                installation creates the temporary working
directory on the system disk by default.

        14 Installing DECpresent

VMSINSTAL has several other options, described in
                the VMS software installation documentation.

A message similar to the following appears on your
                screen:

VAX/VMS Software Product Installation Procedure V5.3

                It is 20-SEP-1990 at 15:22.

                 O
                 P
                * Do you want to continue anyway [NO]?

DECwindows requires that DECnet be up and running.

              5. Enter YES to continue the installation.

You are asked whether you need to back up your
                system disk:

                * Are you satisfied with the backup of your system disk [YES]?

Generally, you should back up your system disk
before any major software installation, as
you were instructed in Chapter 1. YES is the
default answer. If you backed up your system disk
recently, press the Return key to continue.

Next, you receive instructions to mount the
distribution medium you specified when you invoked
VMSINSTAL (in this example, MUA0:). If you did
not specify where you would mount the distribution
volumes the system prompts you to identify where
                you have mounted them.

Please mount the first volume of the set on MUA0:.
                * Are you ready?

              6. Mount the medium, then enter YES to indicate that
                you are ready to continue.

The following messages appear on your screen:

The following products will be processed:

                  PRESENT V1.0

Beginning installation of DECPRESENT V1.0 at 15:22

If you selected OPTIONS N when you first invoked
the VMSINSTAL procedure, a menu asks you how you
want to handle the Release Notes:

                Release Notes Options:

                        1. Display release notes
                        2. Print release notes
                        3. Both 1 and 2
                        4. Copy release notes to SYS$HELP
                        5. Do not display, print or copy release notes

                * Select option [2]:

You should review the Release Notes in case
they contain any information about changes in
the installation procedures. Choosing option 3
displays the Release Notes and prints a copy.

If you do choose an option that prints the Release
Notes, you are prompted for a print queue:

                * Queue name [SYS$PRINT]:

              7. Press the Return key to print the Release Notes
on SYS$PRINT, or type a different queue name and
                press Return.

The screen displays a message similar to the
                following:

                Job 810 (queue SYS$PRINT, entry 1295) started on SYS$PRINT

You are asked whether you want to continue with
                the installation:

                * Do you want to continue the installation?

              8. Enter YES to continue, otherwise press the Return
                key.

In either case, the Release Notes are copied to a
file in the SYS$HELP directory and you receive a
                message similar to the following:

%VMSINSTAL-I-RELMOVED, The product's release notes have been
                successfully moved to SYS$HELP.

The Release Notes are contained in SYS$HELP: and
                have the name PRESENT010.RELEASE_NOTES.

Note that the name of the Release Notes file
includes the product name and version number.

Do not delete Release Notes for previous versions
                of DECpresent.

You can install the DECpresent kit completely or just the video
fonts required to create equations and bullets.

If you are installing this kit for use on a workstation, or on a
VAXcluster that includes workstations, then you should install
the entire kit. This requires 33935 blocks.

If you are installing this kit on a workstation that will only run
DECpresent from a remote system, then only the video font files
are needed. This requires 1518 blocks.

                                           Installing DECpresent 17

If you are installing DECpresent on a VAXcluster
that includes workstations, you should install the
entire kit. Workstations that will run DECpresent
from a remote system require only that the video
fonts be installed locally. See Section 2.1 for
                more information.

You receive information about the number of blocks
required to install the entire kit or only the
video font files. You are then asked if you want
                to install the entire kit:

                * Do you want to install the entire kit [YES]?

This procedure assumes you are installing the kit
on a standalone system or VAXcluster and that you
will be installing the entire kit. See Appendix A
for a sample printout of how the installation
appears if you install only the video fonts.

              9. Press the Return key.

The installation procedure will then check to
see what version of DECchart is installed on your
system. Depending on what version of DECchart is
installed, the installation procedure will either
install a newer version or leave the current
                version on your system.

For example, if DECchart has not been installed
on your system, the installation procedure will
                display the appropriate message.

This kit requires DECchart V1.1 or later.

                    *************************************************************

DECchart V1.1 will be installed since it does
                    not exist on your system.

                    *************************************************************

The installation procedure then checks whether
the Equation Editor has been installed on your
system. If the Equation Editor has not been
installed, the installation procedure will install
                it automatically.

        18 Installing DECpresent

For example, if the Equation Editor has not
been installed on your system, the installation
procedure will display the appropriate message.

This kit requires the Equation Editor V1.1-1 or later.

The Equation Editor V1.1-1 will be installed
since it does not exist on your system.

The system proceeds to the next step, which is to
install the spell check lexicon directories, if
the lexicons have not already been installed on
                your system.

The DECpresent spell check lexicons will be installed in the directory
SYS$SYSDEVICE:[LCI.LEXICONS] by default. You may optionally install the
files on a device other than the system disk.

                * Please specify a device on which to install the spell check lexicons
                [SYS$SYSDEVICE:]:

10.Press the Return key to install the lexicons on
                the default device.

The procedure then checks to be sure the product
                authorization key has been installed.

11.If your authorization key is registered and
                loaded, enter YES.

If you answer YES, you are then asked whether
you want to run the Installation Verification
Procedure (IVP). The IVP is a small presentation
that is opened by DECpresent to be sure the
installation is complete. The system may ask you
where to display the IVP. Enter the name of a
working DECwindows workstation on your network if
                you receive such a prompt.

If you answer NO, the screen displays the
                following messages:

%VMSINSTAL-W-NOIVP, The IVP will not be run since the DECpresent license
                -VMSINSTAL-W-NOIVP, is not installed.

You must register and load the license in order to use DECpresent

We recommend that you execute the IVP after you complete this
installation. The IVP consists of several separate command
                     procedures. Execute them as follows:

                          @sys$test:present$ivp           ! DECpresent
                          @sys$test:chart$ivp             ! DECchart

                     Installation continuing...

You are asked whether you want to purge (delete)
old versions of files replaced by this installa-
                tion:

                * Do you want to purge files replaced by this installation [YES]?

                Purging is recommended.

12.Press the Return key to purge old versions of the
files. To save old files, or if you are installing
DECpresent for the first time, enter NO.

The installation procedure then displays infor-
mation about the DECpresent clipart directories.
The clipart directories store the graphics that
are displayed in the DECpresent Art Gallery dialog
                box.

                * Please a specify location for the clipart directories
                [SYS$SYSDEVICE:[CLIPART]]:

13.Press the Return key to create the default
directory, or enter a new directory name.

The screen displays the following message:

You have chosen the clipart directory SYS$SYSDEVICE:[CLIPART]
                * Is this correct [YES]?

The following commands must be added to the system startup
command file SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_V5.COM for all nodes that will

You must now restart the DECwindows server on each workstation
                     that will use DECpresent.
If you don't do this, the workstation user will not be able to
use the new Equation Editor and Bullet fonts.
To do this, log in to each workstation in a privileged account
                     and type
                          @sys$startup:decw$startup.com restart

%VMSINSTAL-I-MOVEFILES, Files will now be moved to their target
                directories...

The installation procedure checks the system
for previously installed products. It does
this to avoid reinstalling earlier versions of
products such as DECchart, which are bundled with
                DECpresent.

For example, if the installation procedure
determines that the version of DECchart currently
installed on the system is a newer version than
the one in the DECpresent kit, DECchart will not
be installed. The savesets for DECchart need not
                be restored; therefore, the "%VMSINSTAL-I-RESTORE,
Restoring product saveset X" messages and the
amount of disk space required will vary depending
                on previously installed layered products.

The installation then executes the IVPs.

                Executing IVP for: DECpresent V1.0

The IVP edits a sample document. If the document looks the same as
the illustration in the installation guide, then the installation
has been successful. After the document windows appears, click the
mouse in the window to assign input focus, and type Alt/Q (hold
down the Compose Character or "Alt" key and press Q) to quit
DECpresent and complete the DECpresent portion of the IVP.

You must now restart the DECwindows server on each workstation
                     that will use DECpresent.
If you don't do this, the workstation user will not be able to
use the new Equation Editor and Bullet fonts.
To do this, log in to each workstation in a privileged account
                     and type
                          @sys$startup:decw$startup.com restart

                             DECpresent Postinstallation Procedures

This chapter describes tasks you must complete after
              you install DECpresent.

        3.1 Editing Startup Files

You must edit the system startup file SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_
              V5.COM and, optionally, PRESENT$STARTUP.COM before
              using DECpresent.

        3.1.1 Editing SYSTARTUP_V5.COM

Add the following lines to SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_
              V5.COM:

              $ @SYS$STARTUP:PRESENT$STARTUP.COM  ! DECpresent
              $ @SYS$STARTUP:LCI$STARTUP.COM  ! International Lexicons

                _____________________ Note _____________________

If an international lexicon has previously been
                installed,
                LCI$STARTUP.COM should be in
                SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_V5.COM.

                ________________________________________________

If you install a DECpresent language variant,
make sure you use the proper parameter with
              WRITE$STARTUP.COM. Also, add DECW$STARTI18N.COM to
              SYS$STARTUP.COM. For example:

              $ @SYS$STARTUP:WRITE$STARTUP "parameter"
              $ @SYS$MANAGER:DECWSTARTI18N "parameter"

                          DECpresent Postinstallation Procedures 27

where parameter identifies the DECpresent language
variant you are installing. See Table 3-1 for a list
              of these language parameters.

                _____________________ Note _____________________

The line for the language variants must come
after the line that starts the network.

                ________________________________________________

              For example, in SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_V5.COM, you
              might see:

              $ @SYS$MANAGER:STARTNET.COM
                      .
                      .
                      .
              $ @SYS$MANAGER:DECW$STARTI18N.COM "parameter"

where parameter identifies the DECpresent language
variant you are installing. See Table 3-1 for a list
              of these language parameters.

              Belgian FR_BE
              French

              Dutch NL_NL

              French FR_FR

              French FR_CA
              Canadian

              German DE_DE

              Italian IT_IT

              Swedish SV_SE

              Swiss French FR_CH

              Swiss IT_CH
              Italian______________________________________________

You can start multiple languages on the same line
in SYSTARTUP_V5.COM by separating the parameters
by commas. For example, the following command would
              start Dutch, French, and German:

              $ @SYS$STARTUP:DECW$STARTI18N "NL_NL,FR_FR,DE_DE"

        3.1.2 Editing PRESENT$STARTUP.COM

              PRESENT$STARTUP.COM defines the logical PRESENT$EXAMPLES
to point to the DECpresent examples directory,
              SYS$COMMON:[SYSHELP.EXAMPLES].

When installing a DECpresent language variant, the
installation places the DECpresent examples in a
              language specific subdirectory. This subdirectory
              is SYS$COMMON:[SYSHELP.EXAMPLES.XX_YY.DECPRESENT],
where XX_YY is the language parameter. See Table 3-1
for a list of the language parameters. Remove the
commented line in PRESENT$STARTUP.COM that defines
PRESENT$EXAMPLES to point to the appropriate language
              variant directory.

By default, all the INSTALL commands in PRESENT$STARTUP.COM
are commented out. You can optionally remove the
comments for the images and shared libraries you
want to install. This improves system performance on
systems where multiple users are running DECpresent
              concurrently.

Make sure you have completed the steps in Section 1.7
before executing PRESENT$STARTUP.COM on a standalone
system or on other nodes in a VAXcluster.

3.2 Installing DECpresent on a Standalone System

When installing DECpresent on a standalone system

              1. Enter @SYS$STARTUP:PRESENT$STARTUP.COM

              2. If you have installed any non-US language variants
                also enter @SYS$MANAGER:DECW$STARTI18N parameter
where parameter is a language parameter, or
                parameters, from Table 3-1.

If you have installed DECpresent on a workstation,
you must restart the DECwindows server so
that it can use the new fonts required by the
Equation Editor and the Bullets dialog box. Enter
                @SYS$STARTUP:DECW$STARTUP RESTART to restart the
                server.

3.3 Installing DECpresent on a VAXcluster

To install DECpresent on a cluster with a common
system disk, make sure you load the DECpresent
license and the American English lexicon license
on each node in the cluster.

You also need to restart the DECwindows server
on each of the satellite workstations. Starting
the server gives those workstations access to the
              required video fonts.

                          DECpresent Postinstallation Procedures 31

To load the licenses, enter the following commands:

              $ mc sysman
              SYSMAN> set environment/cluster/user=system
Remote Password: <system password for the cluster nodes>
              SYSMAN> do license load PRESENT-V
              SYSMAN> do install replace sys$library:dcltables.exe
              SYSMAN> do install replace sys$library:cda$access
              SYSMAN> do license load intl-lexicon-american
              SYSMAN> do @sys$startup:lci$startup
              SYSMAN> do @sys$startup:PRESENT$startup
              SYSMAN> do @sys$startup:decw$startup restart
! If there are no active users. Only required for workstations
              SYSMAN> do @sys$manager:decwstarti18n PARAMETER
              !DECpresent language variants
              SYSMAN> exit

See Table 3-1 for a list of the language parameters.

        3.4 Rebooting the System

You can reboot your system after you have installed
DECpresent and reset the system parameters (if
necessary). A system reboot verifies that DECpresent
is ready for use and establishes any new parameter
settings. Note, however, that rebooting is optional.

        3.5 User Account Requirements

To use DECpresent, user accounts on your system
must have certain privileges and quotas. The
next two sections contain information about these
              requirements.

        3.5.1 Privileges

To use DECpresent, each account must have at least
the TMPMBX and NETMBX privileges. Use the VMS
Authorize utility to determine whether users have
              the privileges they require.

        32 DECpresent Postinstallation Procedures

        3.5.2 User Account Quotas

You must make sure that the appropriate user accounts
have sufficient quotas to be able to use DECpresent.
Table 3-2 summarizes minimum recommended process
              quotas.

              Table_3-2_User_Account_Quotas________________________

              Account_Quota____Value_______________________________

              ASTLM 100

              BIOLM 40

              DIOLM 40

              FILLM 40

              TQELM 20

              ENQLM 110

              WSDEF 256

              WSQUOTA 512

              WSEXT 4,100[1]
              [1]On_a_single-user_workstation,_the_value_of_WSEXT__

can be set equal to the value of WSMAX for better
              performance.
              _____________________________________________________

User account quotas are stored in the file SYSUAF.DAT.
Use the Authorize utility to verify and change
user account quotas. First set your directory to
              SYS$SYSTEM and then run AUTHORIZE:

              $ SET DEFAULT SYS$SYSTEM
              $ RUN AUTHORIZE
              UAF>

                          DECpresent Postinstallation Procedures 33

At the AUTHORIZE prompt (UAF>), use the SHOW command
with an account name to check a particular account.
              For example:

              UAF> SHOW SMITH

To change a quota, use the MODIFY command at the UAF>
prompt. MODIFY has the following format:

              MODIFY account-name /quota-name=nnnn

This example changes the FILLM quota for the SMITH
account and then exits from the utility:

              UAF> MODIFY SMITH /FILLM=40
              UAF> EXIT

After you exit from the utility, the VMS system
displays messages indicating whether or not changes
were made. Once you have finished making the changes,
the users must log out and log in again for the new
              quotas to take effect.

For more information about modifying account quotas,
see the description of the Authorize utility in the
VMS system management and operations documentation.

        3.6 Tuning Your System

After you install DECpresent, you might want to
adjust your system to enhance performance or lower
the use of some system resources. Information about
tuning your system is included in the VMS System
              Management,
              Volume 4, Performance manual.

        3.7 Selecting a Language

You need to specify what language you will use when
you run a DECpresent language variant. Select the
language by choosing Language from the Customize menu
in the Session Manager and double clicking on the
              primary language.

        3.8 Installation Verification Procedures

              The DECpresent Installation Verification Procedures
are run automatically at the end of the DECpresent
installation procedure if you enter YES to that
              option during the installation.

                _____________________ Note _____________________

Before you run the IVP for any language other
than English, you must first set the language
                you will use.

                ________________________________________________

If you did not enter YES, you may want to run
the IVPs later. If run later, the IVPs need three
              separate command procedures:

              $ @SYS$TEST:PRESENT$IVP.COM       ! DECpresent
              $ @SYS$TEST:CHART$IVP.COM         ! DECchart
              $ @SYS$TEST:LAE$IVP.COM           ! American-English lexicon
              $ @SYS$TEST:CDACVTLIB$IVP.COM     ! CDA Converters

You receive a message indicating whether the IVP
              succeeded or failed.

        3.9 Using the Font Utility

The Font utility is a program that allows users to
add new fonts or delete existing fonts from the
DECpresent font family menu. See Section 3.9.3 for
the Font utility commands, formats, and descriptions.

If you include a font using the Font utility that
does not have an equivalent weight or slant in
DECpresent, DECpresent maps the weight and slant
of the imported font to a weight and slant that it
              does use.

3.9.1 Preparing to Run the Font Utility

To prepare to run the font utility you must first:

o Install all screen fonts in the SYS$COMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.USER_
75DPI] for 75 dpi font directories or
                SYS$COMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.USER_100DPI] for 100
dpi font directories and make them known to the
DECwindows server by restarting the server.

o Install all corresponding Adobe Font Metric (.AFM)
and .PS outline files in the SYS$PS_FONT_METRICS:
                directory.

o Be sure you have defined your display. (See
                Chapter 2.)

After adding new fonts to DECpresent enter the
following command at the $ prompt.

              SET FILE /PROTECTION=(W:RE) SYS$LIBRARY:WRITE$FONTS.INI

If you do not issue this command, DECpresent
displays an error message saying that it cannot open
              WRITE$FONTS.INI and exits.

        3.9.2 Font Utility Startup

The font utility's initialization will require
              approximately 30-60 seconds.

              At the $ prompt enter:

              write$fontutil infilename

              or

              write$fontutil infilename outfilename

The arguments infilename and outfilename refer to the
              font initialization file.

              The screen displays:

              V1.1 Font Utility
You may have to wait 30-60 seconds while this utility initializes...

3.9.3 Font Utility Commands and Descriptions

The Font utility allows users to manage additional
fonts not shipped with DECpresent. Table 3-3 shows
the Font utility's messages and some explanation of
              them.

Each of these commands uses two font lists. The add
list contains font families that may be added to the
DECpresent menu. The menu list contains font families
that are already part of the DECpresent menu.

              Command___Format,_Effects,_and_Descriptions__________

              Add Add "fontname"

Displays one new font family if you specify
a fontname and places it (fontname) on
the menu list, and removes it from the add
                        list.

If you do not specify the fontname, the
add command prompts you for it with the
prompt Family name:. If you press the
Return key without specifying a fontname
                        the add command changes nothing.

              Hide Hide "fontname"

Hides the fontname from the menu list.
Hidden or invisible fonts are available
to existing DECpresent files read in, but
are not visible on the DECpresent Font
Family menu. This feature is useful for
hiding the DECmath fonts from the menu or
in permitting a user to exclude a standard
                        font without actually deleting it.

If you do not specify the fontname, the
hide command will prompt for it with
Family name:. If you press Return, the
                        hide command changes nothing.

              Delete Delete "fontname"

Deletes the indicated fontname from the
menu list, adding it to the add list.

If you do not specify the fontname, the
delete command prompts you for it with
Family name:. If you press Return, the
                        delete command changes nothing.

              Exit Exit outfilename

Saves the changes made to infilename
to outfilename. If you do not specify
outfilename on the command line, the exit
                        command uses the following defaults:

o If you specify outfilename in the
                          startup command line

                        $ write$fontutil infilename outfilename

                          or

o If you specify infilename in startup
                          command line

                        $ write$fontutil infilename

In either case, DECpresent verifies that
you wish to write to the indicated file.
This is especially important if infilename
would be overwritten by the changes you
                        have just made.

              Quit Quit

                        Terminates session without saving changes.

If you made changes to the infilename,
the font utility prompts you to confirm
that you want to quit without saving
your changes. If you answer yes, the font
                        utility's session terminates without saving
any changes. If you answer no, the utility
saves no changes and the font utility
                        continues running.

If you have made no changes to the
infilename the font utility session ends
                        without confirmation.

              Rename Rename "oldfontname" "newfontname"

Renames the indicated font family to a new
                        font name.

The font names are the same names displayed
on the DECpresent Font Family menu.
Changing this name does not affect
DECpresent internal font names that are
used in looking up a font chosen during a
                        DECpresent session.

If you do not specify oldfontname, newfont-
name or both names, the rename command will
ask for the omitted information with the
prompts From: and To: for the oldfontname
and newfontname, respectively. If you press
Return at either of these prompts without
entering a font name, the rename command is
                        abandoned.

        3.11 Running DECpresent from FileView

As part of the installation, DECpresent is added to
the FileView Applications menu. You should inform all
users after the installation that DECpresent is now
available as an option on their FileView Applications
              menu.

If you install a language variant of DECpresent
on a system where the same language variant of
FileView exists, DECpresent is added to the FileView
              Applications menu.

For more information on FileView, refer to the
              DECwindows User's Guide.

        3.12 Running DECpresent from DCL

To run DECpresent from the DCL command line enter at
              the $ prompt:

              run sys$system:DECpresent

You can also add a line to your login.com file to
define a symbol to run DECpresent. For example:

              DECpresent :== $ sys$system:DECpresent

A user could, after logging out and then logging back
in or running login.com, enter at the DCL $ prompt:

              DECpresent filename

This would invoke DECpresent and open the named
              document.

        3.13 Determining and Reporting Problems

If you encounter a problem while using DECpresent,
report it to Digital. Depending on the nature of the
problem and the type of support you have, you can
take one of the following actions:

o Call Digital if your software contract or warranty
agreement entitles you to telephone support.

o Submit a Software Performance Report (SPR).

Review the Software Product Description (SPD) and
Warranty Addendum for warranty information. If you
encounter a problem during the warranty period,
report the problem as indicated above or follow
alternate instructions provided by Digital for

                                     Sample DECpresent Installation

This appendix contains printouts of typical
              DECpresent installation procedures. These procedures
              show

o A full installation with all licenses installed

o An installation with only the font license
                installed

To perform a successful installation, you must:

              1. Prepare your system by completing the procedure in
                Chapter 1.

              2. Install DECpresent by completing the installation
                procedure described in Chapter 2.

              3. Perform any needed postinstallation procedures
                described in Chapter 3.

        A.1 Full DECpresent Installation

This sample installation printout shows the
user responses and system messages when all the
              appropriate licenses have been installed.
