                        DECdecision Version 1.1 MSC

This network kit contains the DECdecision[TM] V1.1 MSC soft-
ware, and the DECdecision Installation and System Manage-
ment Guide. The DECdecision Release Notes are included in
the DECdecision save sets. During the installation, you are
prompted to print or read the Release Notes. After the in-
stallation, you can obtain a copy of the Release Notes by
          printing the text file SYS$HELP:DECISION011.RELEASE_NOTES.

DECdecision V1.1 MSC requires VMS V5.3-1. VMS V5.3-1 con-
tains important fixes to known VAXTPU problems that cause
fatal errors in the Access component. Before you install
DECdecision, you should make sure that your system has VMS
V5.3-1 or higher and DECwindows V2.0 installed.

However, if you are unable to upgrade to VMS V5.3-1 and you
still want to install DECdecision, you can install DECde-
cision on a VMS V5.3 system by defining the logical DECI-
          SION$IGNORE_VERSION to be TRUE.

The DECdecision Installation and System Management Guide
contains complete instructions for installing DECdecision
V1.1 MSC. We strongly suggest you read the guide before pro-
          ceeding with the installation.

          Software License Information

If you are currently running DECdecision V1.0 or T1.1 and
are upgrading to V1.1 MSC, you do not need to re-register
your software license. Your current license is still ac-
          tive.

                                       (continued on other side)

If you are installing DECdecision for the first time, you
need to obtain a software license. You can use VTX to ob-
tain a product authorization key (PAK) by following these
          steps:

          1. At the DCL $ prompt, type VTX PAK.

          2. In VTX, select Option 1 - Software Product Authoriza-
             tion Keys.

          3. VTX asks a series of questions to verify that you are
             a Digital employee.

          4. After you have successfully answered the verification
questions, select Option 1 - One PAK By Product Name.

          5. Specify the PAK name DECDECISION-USER

          6. Follow the instructions provided by VTX to generate a
.COM file that you can execute to register your new PAK.
             Then exit from VTX.

          7. At the DCL $ prompt, execute the .COM file to register
             and load the DECdecision license.

If you are installing DECdecision on a VAXcluster, you
must also load the license on all nodes that will be run-
ning DECdecision. See Chapter 3 of the DECdecision In-
stallation and System Management Guide for instructions.

Upgrading from DECdecision V1.0 or T1.1 to V1.1 MSC

If you have already installed DECdecision V1.0 or T1.1, you
do not need to repeat the following installation procedures
          when upgrading to V1.1 MSC:

o Registering and loading your software license

o Preparing and converting your databases

DECdecision V1.1 MSC requires VMS V5.3-1. However, you can
install DECdecision on a VMS V5.3 system by defining the
          logical DECISION$IGNORE_VERSION to be TRUE.

                                         (continued on next page)

          How to Report Problems

If you find bugs or encounter problems using DECdecision
V1.1 MSC, you should report them through the DECdecision
          QAR system.

You can continue to ask questions in the notes files (RE-
          GAL::DECdecision and
REGAL::DECdecision_bugs), but if you find a bug, we strongly
recommend that you enter a QAR. If not, we cannot guaran-
tee an answer or that the problem will be fixed.

To access the DECdecision QAR databases:

$ Set Host VIA, REGAL, RAB, or 2HOT
               Username: DECISION_QAR
               Password: QAR

The QAR system displays the following list of databases.
Choose one by typing the name at the QAR prompt.
