SSMgr reduces oper-D ational time spent during OpenVMS BACKUP operations by providing anG avenue for offline save set validation, copy, and save set merge func- tions.6 The key benefits of Save Set Manager for OpenVMS are:D o Reduction of operational time spent on online backup and restore' without compromising data integrity> o Selective manipulation of save set contents and attributes@ o Transfer of backup save sets between tape drive technologiesG o Transfer of backup save sets from one tape or disk drive to another@ tape or disk drive while maintaining data integrity features4 o Reduced down time for a BACKUP/RESTORE operation8 o Ability to monitor degradation of archived save sets o Wildcard support o Backup journal file creation, o Multiple output copies on merge and copyD May 1998D AE-QDKPJ-TE G There are three separate and distinct functions in SSMgr Version 1.3B.
They are:F 1. Save Set VALIDATE-This function validates the internal consistencyF of a specified save set offline and reports any exceptions back to
the user.E 2. Save Set COPY-This function provides the ability to duplicate theH save set with the addition/deletion of CRC or XOR blocks in the out-6 put save set and eliminates any duplicate records.E 3. Save Set MERGE-This function provides the ability to merge incre-E mental save sets with other incremental or full save sets, reduc-0 ing the frequency of full BACKUP operations. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTSD Save Set Manager is a layered software product on the OpenVMS oper-D ating system for both VAX and Alpha hardware platforms. The list ofF supported processors and hardware configurations is the same as thoseE supported by OpenVMS and mentioned in the following Software Product Descriptions (SPDs):/ OpenVMS VAX Operating System SPD (25.01.xx)1 OpenVMS Alpha Operating System SPD (41.87.xx)A A minimum system configuration to run Save Set Manager includes:H o Recommended: Same or greater amount of memory as the system on which) the save sets were originally created8 o One or more disk or tape drives supported by OpenVMS Processor Restrictions:2 Disk Space Requirements (Block Cluster Size = 1):' Disk space required for 3000 blocks installation:# 2 ) (1500 Kbytes)' Disk space required for 1000 blocks use (permanent):) (500 K bytes)F These counts refer to the disk space required on the system disk. TheE sizes are approximate; actual sizes may vary depending on the user's9 system environment, configuration, and software options. OPTIONAL DEVICE HARDWAREH Any OpenVMS VAX or OpenVMS Alpha supported tape or disk drive also willG be supported by Save Set Manager.
