The DEC C RTL has added capabilities to allow application developers to create international software. The DEC C RTL obtains information about a language and a culture by reading this information from 'locale' files. This kit contains all of the supported locale files. The kit also contains a set of Unicode codeset converters which allows conversion between any supported codeset, including DEC Multinational Character Set and Microsoft Code Page 437, to any flavor of Unicode encoding: UCS-2, UCS-4 or UTF-8. In order to facilitate using the Euro sign by those applications which are currently using the ISO8859-1 character set, the DEC C RTL has added proprietary codeset ISO8859-1-EURO. This codeset is identical to the ISO8859-1 codeset except for the 0xa4 codepoint which is defined as international currency sign in ISO8859-1 codeset and as a Euro sign in ISO8859-1-EURO codeset. For every locale based on ISO8859-1 codeset, there is a "Euro" locale based on ISO8859-1-EURO codeset. The only difference between "normal" and "Euro" locale is definition of currency and international currency symbols. For example, there are both EN_GB_ISO8859-1 and EN_GB_ISO8859-1-EURO locales in the kit. While EN_GB_ISO8859-1 locale defines currency symbol as "£" and international currency symbol as GBP ", the EN_GB_ISO8859-1-EURO locale defines them as Euro sign and "EUR ", respectively. The kit contains also the Unicode codeset converters for ISO8859-1-EURO codeset and ISO8859-15 codeset (also known as Latin-9). The locale and codeset converters support in the DEC C RTL is latent and requires DEC C V5.0 or higher in order to develop new applications utilizing this support. If you are using these new DEC C RTL capabilities, you must install the VMSI18N073 kit on your system. This kit is provided on the same media as your OpenVMS field test kit. To install this saveset, follow the standard OpenVMS installation procedures using this saveset name as the name of the kit. For example, $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL VMSI18N073 dev:[dir] There are five categories of locales that you may select to install. You may select as many of them as you need. Do you want European and US support? Do you want Chinese support? Do you want Japanese support? Do you want Korean support? Do you want Thai support? You may also select installation of Unicode codeset converters: Do you want the Unicode converters? This kit also has an Installation Verification Procedure which we recommend that you run to verify the correct installation of the kit. Instructions on running this IVP are given during the installation procedure.
