KREADME.TXT File for SAMBA V2.2.7A Distribution CD 23-MAR-2003K===========================================================================HThis CD distribution was made from a set of .ZIP files found on the web.IThe intent is to have a kit that will link and install directly from the FCD without the need to copy down the entire directory from the CD and "build/install it from local disk. EThe entire source distribution is provided as downloaded, as are the Bobject distribution archives which did not originally include the 5necessary DCL procedures to LINK and INSTALL the kit.GThe functionality of the SAMBA software is in no way modified by this. Only the packaging was revised.:Note that IPF (IA64) support is not provided at this time.GThe entire installation procedure (including the uninstall) was tested Hwith BYPASS privilege enabled. It is recommended that BYPASS be enabled Bfor your process, if at all possible; however, SYSPRV may suffice.EThe INSTALL procedure will require SYSPRV and CMEXEC privilege, at a minimum.Installing from the CD----------------------HThe following example illustrates the commands needed to accomplish the
installation:G$ MOUNT/NOASSIST/OVER=ID ddcu: ! "ddcu:" is your CD-Rom device?$ @ddcu:[SAMBAU7A022.VMS]LINK ! Common LINK procedureG$ @ddcu:[SAMBAU7A022.VMS]INSTALL ! Common installation procedure$ DISMOUNT ddcu:GThe LINK procedure will place the executables in [.SAMBAU7A022.BIN] in Eyour current default directory. The INSTALL procedure will expect to find them there.FThe INSTALL procedure will ask for the location where the SAMBA files Hshould be installed. The default location is a [SAMBA] directory on the Gsystem disk. You can specify another directory or another directory on another volume. DAfter INSTALL, you will find a [.SAMBAU7A022.BIN] structure in your Dcurrent default directory. This and the files in it can be deleted. HWhen installing for multiple architectures, these files must be deleted Eafter the first INSTALL before attempting the second; otherwise, VAX Dexecutables would be installed for Alpha or vice-versa, for example.UN-Installing Samba-------------------DAn UNINSTALL.COM procedure is provided to aid in removing the Samba .software should this be needed for any reason.Copying the Entire Source Tree------------------------------DTo build the software from scratch, unpack the SAMBA-2_2_7A-SRC.ZIP Farchive to your local disk. This archive includes the program source, Athe DCL procedures and FDL files used during the BUILD, LINK and >INSTALL operations, and the on-line HTML (only) documentation.5Two additional archives are also provided on the CD: o SAMBA-2_2_7A-OBJ.ZIPo SAMBA-2_2_7A-OBJ_VAX.ZIPFUnpack one or the other, but not both as both archives are built from Dthe same directory tree. The object files from one archive would be Hreplaced by those from the other. The original provider of the archives Hdid not have architecture-specific directories for the binaries (object files).On-line Documentation---------------------HHTML (only) documentation is provided as received in the *-SRC archive. CThis can be read directly from the CD prior to installation, also. CNavigate to the [SAMBAU7A022.DOCS.HTMLDOCS] directory and open the Edesired file. A central INDEX.HTML file does not appear to have been provided.
