1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 General

This technical specification describes the requirements for Signalling System No. 7 for the Nordic Mobile Telephone system NMT-450/ 900 as defined in NMT Doc. 450/900-2. The specification is split in three parts:

I Mobile User Part (MUP)

II Handover User Part (HUP)

III SCCP specification for Mobile User Part

The purpose of this specification is to define a MUP-specification for the NMT system to correspond to the signalling procedures defined in NMT Doc. 450/900-2.

The signalling system described in this document refers only to end- to-end signalling between NMT nodes(MTX’s, HLR’s and AR). The signalling between MTX’s and HLR’s is conveyed via national and international signalling networks while the signalling between MTX’s and AR is conveyed only via national signalling networks. The signalling between MTX’s and the fixed telephone network is specified in the national TUP or ISUP specifications.

The following cases for NMT node end-to-end signalling are specified in MUP:

For end-to-end signalling between MTX’s, HLR’s and AR only Security Data Transfer is specified.

The MUP specification includes restart procedures to recover from the error situations, where an MTX or HLR has been restarted and the location register contents have been lost. The procedures for handling of abnormal cases are described.
