For more specific information about the installation procedure, see Section 2.1. The following sections describe the criteria used to determine the type of installation required. 1.4.1 New Installation If WPS-PLUS software has not been installed on your system or you are running WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 3.0 or earlier, a new installation will be performed. You will be asked to provide the name of the disk on which to install the WPS-PLUS files. If you are running WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 3.0 or earlier, and the installation is targeted to the same disk, all WPS- PLUS system files, except the printer table files, will be overwritten. For information about converting printer table files, see Section 3.1. For information about using the Print Table Utility, see the WPS-PLUS for VMS Printer Characteristics. Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software 1-3 If you are running WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 3.0 or earlier, modify the system startup file as described in Section 3.2 after installing WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 4.0. If you are a new user of WPS-PLUS software, see Chapter 3 for information on how to create user accounts and set up terminals. 1.4.2 Update Installation If you are running WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 3.1, an update installation will be done. Before starting the installation, make sure that the WPS-PLUS logicals are defined correctly. To check the WPS-PLUS logicals, enter the following commands: $ SHOW LOGICAL WPL$IMAGE $ SHOW LOGICAL /TABLE=WPL* If the logical WPL$IMAGE is not defined, the installation procedure performs a new installation. To perform an update installation, invoke SYS$STARTUP:WPLSTART to set up the WPS- PLUS logicals. Note You must be running WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 3.1 to do an update installation. If you are running an earlier version of WPS-PLUS software, you must do a new installation. The update installation creates multiple copies of the printer table files in the [WPSPLUS.PRINT] directory; do not purge these files after the update installation is complete. For instructions on converting printer table files af- ter the installation, see the WPS-PLUS for VMS Printer Characteristics. For other information about converting printer tables, see Section 3.1. For information about using the Printer Table Utility, see the WPS-PLUS for VMS Printer Characteristics. 1.4.3 Additional Language Installation If your system runs more than a single language version of WPS-PLUS software, you must update all additional language systems after the primary WPS-PLUS system has been updated. All additional language versions of WPS-PLUS software must be the same version as the primary system. 1-4 Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software The installation procedure asks if you want an additional language installation. If you answer YES, additional language support is installed. If you answer NO, the installation proceeds as a single language update to your primary language system. 1.5 License Registration You must register the WPS-PLUS license through the VMS License Management Facility (LMF) in accordance with the license agreement signed by your site. The Product Authorization Key (PAK) contains information you need to register the license. The PAK is a paper certificate that contains information about the license you have purchased to run a particular piece of software. If you are installing WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 4.0, as an update on a node or cluster already licensed for this software, you must register the Service Update PAK (SUP) that is included in your Service Update Kit. If you already registered a PAK or a SUP for this product on this node or cluster, you do not need to register the SUP. If you are installing an update of WPS-PLUS software but lack a service contract, call your Digital representative for instructions on how to get a PAK. During the installation, the system asks whether you have registered the WPS-PLUS license and loaded the appropriate authorization key. You must register and load your license for WPS-PLUS software before you start the installation procedure. The installation ends if the procedure cannot verify your registration. To register a license under the VMS operating system, first log in to the SYSTEM account. You can register the license in either of two ways: _ Invoke the SYS$UPDATE:VMSLICENSE.COM procedure. When it asks you for information, enter data from your PAK. _ At the DCL prompt, enter the LICENSE REGISTER command with the appropriate qualifiers. To use WPS-PLUS software on more than one node in a VAXcluster, you need to load the license on the other nodes after you complete this installation. For information on installing WPS-PLUS software on a VAXcluster, see Section 3.5. Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software 1-5 For complete information on using LMF, see the VMS License Management Utility Manual. 1.6 VAXcluster Configuration Types You can install WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 4.0, on any of three VAXcluster configuration types: Computer Interconnect (CI)-only VAXclusters Local Area VAXclusters Mixed-interconnect VAXclusters The following lists the types of clusters, provides installation information specific to each type, and defines the operating environments: _ Computer Interconnect (CI)-only VAXclusters CI-only clusters use the computer interconnect for interprocessor communication; the Star Coupler is the common connection point for all cluster nodes. Cluster nodes can be Hierarchical Storage Controllers (HSCs) or any VAX computer specified in the VAXcluster Software Product Description (SPD). _ Local Area VAXclusters Local area clusters consist of a boot server (a VAX or MicroVAX computer containing all the disks from which WPS- PLUS software is run) connected by Ethernet to a number of satellite nodes. The usual satellite node is a MicroVAX computer. Install WPS-PLUS software on the boot server only, using the pre-installation and installation procedures described in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Do not install WPS-PLUS software on the satellite nodes. Satellite nodes, which are used only by the individual work groups, use the boot server to access WPS-PLUS software. You must, however, check the VMS system parameters for each node on which you are going to run WPS-PLUS software. For information on VMS system parameters, see Section 1.10. _ Mixed-interconnect VAXclusters 1-6 Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software A mixed-interconnect cluster can include VAX computers, HSCs, and MicroVAX satellite nodes. You use the same procedure to install WPS-PLUS software on mixed- interconnect and on Local Area VAXclusters. For information on installing WPS-PLUS software in a VAXcluster, see Section 3.5 and the VMS VAXcluster Manual. 1.7 Required Time The installation should take approximately two hours, depending on your media and your system configuration. 1.8 Required Privileges Install WPS-PLUS software from the system manager's account, with full privileges. The installation procedure turns off the BYPASS privilege at the start of the installation. 1.9 Required Disk Space You can install WPS-PLUS software on the system disk or on an alternate disk. Whether you install WPS-PLUS software on the system disk or on an alternate disk, the installation requires the following amounts of disk space before and after the installation: _ If you install WPS-PLUS software on the system disk: BEFORE installation, you must have 27,000 free blocks available on the system disk. AFTER installation, WPS-PLUS software will use 22,000 blocks of the system disk. _ If you install WPS-PLUS software on an alternate disk: BEFORE installation, you must have 27,000 free blocks available on the system disk, and 16,000 free blocks available on the alternate disk. AFTER installation, WPS-PLUS software will use 6,000 blocks of the system disk and 16,000 blocks on the alternate disk. _ The optional Encapsulated PostScript graphics files require an additional 3000 blocks on the disk WPS-PLUS software is installed on. Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software 1-7 _ The linguistic components of WPS-PLUS software require an additional 1200 blocks on the disk you install them on. You can change the device on which you installed WPS-PLUS software to rearrange your disk space use. To change the device on which you installed WPS-PLUS software after the installation is complete, follow the procedure described in Section 3.7. To determine the number of free blocks on the system or the alternate disk, enter the following command: $ SHOW DEVICE ddcu: Substitute for ddcu: the device name of the disk on which you installed, or will install, WPS-PLUS software in the previous example. 1.10 Required System Parameter Values This section describes how to do the following tasks: _ Check the system parameter values. _ Calculate values for the GBLPAGES and GBLSECTIONS system parameters. _ Change the values of GBLPAGES, GBLSECTIONS, VIRTUALPAGECNT, and WSMAX using the VMS AUTOGEN command procedure. 1.10.1 Required System Parameter Values for Installation Table 1-2 lists the required system parameter values for the installation. The table lists only nonstandard parameter settings. SYSGEN default values are adequate for those settings not listed. Depending on the kinds of programs and applications running at your site, you might need higher values for some settings. Note If your system's current SYSGEN parameters are set at higher values than those listed in Table 1-2, do not reduce those values. 1-8 Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software Table 1-2 Minimum Required System Parameter Values for Installation _____________________________________________________________ System_Parameter______Value__________________________________ GBLPAGES[1] n + 9000 GBLSECTIONS[1] n + 40 LOCKIDTBL[2] 340 RESHASHTBL[3] 85 TTY_BUF 140 TTY_TYPAHDSZ 160 VIRTUALPAGECNT 20000 WSMAX 3000 _____________________________________________________________ [1]The n variable refers to the system parameter values that are currently in use. See Section 1.10.4 for information on how to determine the system parameter values required for your installation of WPS-PLUS software. [2]The formula for calculating the LOCKIDTBL parameter is 80 + (40 x maximum number of simultaneous users). [3]The formula for calculating the RESHASHTBL parameter is 1/4 x the value of LOCKIDTBL. _____________________________________________________________ 1.10.2 Checking System Parameter Values To check the values of your system parameters, enter the following command at the DCL prompt to run the SYSGEN utility: $RUN SYS$SYSTEM:SYSGEN SYSGEN> At the SYSGEN> prompt, enter the SHOW command to display the value of each system parameter. The values displayed should equal or exceed the value of each parameter listed in Table 1-2. For instance, the following example shows how to check the values for the VIRTUALPAGECNT system parameter: Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software 1-9 SYSGEN> SHOW VIRTUALPAGECNT Parameter Name Current Default Minimum Maximum Unit Dynamic -------------- ------- ------- ------- ------- ---- ------- VIRTUALPAGECNT 106304 8192 512 600000 Pages After you check the parameters, enter the EXIT command at the SYSGEN> prompt to return to DCL level. 1.10.3 Recovering Global Pages and Sections If you are performing an update installation of WPS-PLUS software, you can recover global pages (GLBPAGES) and global sections (GBLSECTIONS) by performing the following tasks: _ Run WPS-PLUS software to remove the form and TXL libraries using the following commands: $ WPS/NOINIT /LANGUAGE=language Enter CMD:OA$FBT_REMOVE OA$LIB:OAFORM Enter CMD:OA$FBT_REMOVE OA$LIB:MEMRES Enter CMD:OA$TXL_REMOVE Enter CMD:EXIT _ Run the Install Utility to delete the known file list entry for the WPS-PLUS for VMS images and all global sections created when the images were installed using the following commands: $ INSTALL INSTALL> DELETE WPL$IMAGE INSTALL> DELETE SYS$SHARE:WPL$LLVlanguage.EXE INSTALL> EXIT 1.10.4 Calculating the Values for GBLPAGES and GBLSECTIONS To install and run WPS-PLUS software, you must calculate the values for the GBLPAGES and GBLSECTIONS system parameters, and, if necessary, increase the values for these system parameters. Note After changing these and other system parameter values, run AUTOGEN. Section 1.10.5 describes the procedures for running AUTOGEN and for increasing the values of other system parameters. For more information, see the VMS System Manager's Manual. The n + 9000 and n + 40 values for GBLPAGES and GBLSECTIONS in Table 1-2 indicate that you must have at least 9000 unused global pages and 40 unused global sections on your system. 1-10 Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software To calculate the number of unused global pages and global sections, enter the following command to run the VMS Install Utility (INSTALL): $ INSTALL LIST/GLOBAL/SUMMARY The Install Utility displays a summary of global pages and global sections used by your system, as well as the current number of unused global pages. For example: Summary of Local Memory Global Sections 248 Global Sections Used, 22580/3420 Global Pages Used/Unused GBLPAGES Calculations If the number of unused global pages (3420 as shown in the previous example) is equal to or greater than 9000, you do not need to change the GLBPAGES parameter. If the number of unused global pages is less than 9000, you need to increase the value for the GBLPAGES parameter. Use the following procedure to determine how much to increase the GBLPAGES parameter: 1 Add the used global pages to the unused global pages to get the current value of the GBLPAGES parameter. Using the numbers displayed by the previous INSTALL command, this value would be 22580 plus 3420, giving a sum of 26000 global pages. 2 Subtract the number of unused global pages from the number of global pages required by WPS-PLUS, shown in Table 1-2. Using the numbers displayed previously, this value would be 9000 minus 3420, giving a remainder of 5580 global pages. 3 Add the remaining global pages to the current value of GBLPAGES to get the minimum amount to which GBLPAGES should be increased. Using the numbers from the previously displayed summaries, you would need to increase GBLPAGES to 31580. The process used to calculate that value is: Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software 1-11 22580 Used Global Pages + 3420 Unused Global Pages ------- 26000 Current Value of GBLPAGES And: 9000 Required Global Pages (from Table 1--2) - 3420 Unused Global Pages ------ 5580 Remainder Then: 26000 Current Value of GBLPAGES + 5580 Remainder ------ 31580 Increase GBLPAGES to this minimum amount Note It is recommended to have more global pages than the minimum required. In the previous example, the minimum value for GBLPAGES was calculated as 31580. The recommended value for GBLPAGES is greater than the minimum, for example, a value of 32000. GBLSECTIONS Calculations If the number of unused global sections is equal to or greater than 40, you do not need to change the GBLSECTIONS parameter. If the number of unused global sections is less than 40, you need to increase the value for the GBLSECTIONS parameter. Use the following procedure to determine how much to increase the GLBSECTIONS parameter: 1 Note the amount of Global Sections Used (248) displayed in the previous use of the INSTALL command. 2 Run the SYSGEN utility and use the SHOW command to determine the number of allocated global sections, using the following commands: $ RUN SYS$SYSTEM:SYSGEN SYSGEN> SHOW GBLSECTIONS Parameter Name Current Default Minimum Maximum Unit Dynamic -------------- ------- ------- ------- ------- ---- ------- GBLSECTIONS 250 250 20 4095 Sections 1-12 Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software 3 Subtract the number displayed in the previous use of the INSTALL command as Global Sections used (248) from the current amount allocated (250 as displayed by the previous SYSGEN command in this example) to determine the number of unused global sections. If the difference is less than 40, you need to increase the value of the GBLSECTIONS parameter. For example, using the figures from the summaries, you would need to increase GBLSECTIONS to 283. The process used to calculate that minimum value is: 250 Current Value of GBLSECTIONS - 248 Global Sections Used ------- 2 Unused Global Sections And: 40 Global Sections Required (from Table 1-2) - 2 Unused Global Sections ------- 38 Remainder Then: 250 Current Value of GBLSECTIONS + 38 Remainder ------ 288 Increase GBLSECTIONS to this minimum amount Note It is recommended to have more global sections than the minimum required. In the previous example, the minimum value for GBLSECTIONS was calculated as 288. The recommended value for GBLSECTIONS is greater than the minimum, for example, a value of 300. 1.10.5 Using AUTOGEN to Change System Parameter Values To change GBLPAGES, GBLSECTIONS, and other system parameters, use the AUTOGEN command procedure. AUTOGEN automatically adjusts values for other system parameters that are associated with the ones you reset manually. Reboot your system to activate the new system parameter values. Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software 1-13 To change system parameters with AUTOGEN, use the following procedure: 1 Edit the file SYS$SYSTEM:MODPARAMS.DAT and add a line for each setting you want to change. For example, to change the setting for the VIRTUALPAGECNT system parameter to 20000, add the following line to the file: VIRTUALPAGECNT= 20000 2 Run the AUTOGEN procedure by entering the following command: $ @SYS$UPDATE:AUTOGEN GETDATA SETPARAMS NOFEEDBACK AUTOGEN recalculates the system parameters you changed, and automatically adjusts any other system parameters affected by those changes. 3 Reboot the system. For more information about using AUTOGEN to modify system parameters, see the VMS System Manager's Manual. 1.11 Required Process Account Quotas Table 1-3 summarizes the minimum required process account quotas required to install WPS-PLUS software. If the existing process account quotas are higher than those listed in Table 1-3, do not lower them. 1-14 Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software Table 1-3 Process Account Quotas for the Installing Account _____________________________________________________________ Account_Quota____Value_______________________________________ ASTLM 100 BIOLM 50 BYTLM[1] 36500 DIOLM 50 ENQLM 200 FILLM 150 PGFLQUO 20000 PRCLM 6 TQELM 50 WSDEF[2] 256 WSEXTENT 2048 WSQUO 512 _____________________________________________________________ [1]Using multiple VMSINSTAL options requires a higher value for BYTLM. [2]The values for WSEXTENT and WSQUO must be equal to or greater than the WSDEF value. _____________________________________________________________ For more information on modifying account quotas, see the VMS Authorize Utility Manual. For information about modifying user account quotas, which also applies to modifying the installing account, see Section 3.3.3. Preparing to Install WPS-PLUS Software 1-15 1.12 Required Installed Images Before you can install the WPS-PLUS software, the following shareable images must be installed on your system: SYS$SHARE:VAXCRTL.EXE SYS$SHARE:MTHRTL.EXE SYS$SHARE:LBRSHR.EXE SYS$SHARE:FDLSHR.EXE SYS$SHARE:FDVSHR.EXE SYS$MESSAGE:FDVMSG.EXE To see if these files are installed, use the VMS Install Utility (INSTALL). At the VMS Install Utility prompt (INSTALL>), use the LIST command to enter the logical name and the file name for each previously listed shareable image. For instance, the following example checks the FDVSHR.EXE image, finds it is installed on SYS$DEVICE, then exits the VMS Install Utility. Errors can occur during the installation if any of the following conditions exist: _ The version of the operating system is incorrect. _ A required software version is incorrect. Installing WPS-PLUS Software 2-13 _ Quotas are insufficient. _ System parameter values are insufficient. _ Disk space is insufficient. _ The VMS Help library is in use. _ The product license has not been registered and loaded. For descriptions of the error messages generated by these conditions, see the VMS System Messages and Recovery Procedures Reference Manual: Part I or the VMS System Messages and Recovery Procedures Reference Manual: Part II. If error messages indicate that any of these conditions exist, take the action described in the error message documentation; for example, you might need to change a system parameter or increase an authorized quota value. For information on installation requirements, see Chapter 1. 2-14 Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3 ________________________________________________________________ After Installing WPS-PLUS Software After installing the WPS-PLUS software for the VMS operating system, you must perform the required post-installation procedures described in this chapter. Note To use the updated DCL tables, users who began a VMS terminal session before the WPS-PLUS installation took place must log out of their VMS terminal session and then log in again after the installation is complete. A new or update installation of WPS-PLUS software requires that you use the Keyboard Selection Utility to set user terminal characteristics. The Keyboard Selection Utility is new with WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 4.0. For more information on the Keyboard Selection Utility, see the online release notes for WPS-PLUS for VMS, Version 4.0. An update installation of WPS-PLUS software requires that you update any customized printer table files from previous versions of WPS-PLUS software. This is the only post- installation task for an update installation. A new installation of WPS-PLUS software requires the following post-installation procedures: _ Editing the system startup file to include the WPS-PLUS startup procedure. _ Creating WPS-PLUS accounts. The optional tasks for a new installation of WPS-PLUS software are as follows: _ Setting printer logical names and terminal characteris- tics. After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3-1 _ Installing WPS-PLUS software on a VAXcluster system. _ Rebooting the system. _ Changing the WPS-PLUS device. _ Adding system-wide common user rulers. 3.1 Modifying Printer Table Files You now access the WPS-PLUS Printer Table Utility from the WPS-PLUS Main menu. The Version 4.0 Printer Table Utility allows you to create, delete, and rename tables in your own WPS-PLUS area. Printer tables created using previous versions of WPS-PLUS for VMS must be converted to Version 4.0 format. For more information on converting and creating printer tables, see the WPS-PLUS for VMS Printer Characteristics. 3.2 Editing the System Startup File You must edit the system startup file to provide for automatic startup of WPS-PLUS software when your system is rebooted. Add the following command line, which starts WPS-PLUS software, as a single line to the system startup file, SYS$STARTUP:SYSTARTUP_V5.COM: $ @SYS$STARTUP:WPLSTART.COM ddcu:[WPSPLUS.DATA_SHARE] Substitute for ddcu: the device name of the disk on which you installed WPS-PLUS software. If DECpage software is installed on your system, place the new command before the command that starts DECpage. When you add this new command line to your system's SYSTARTUP_V5.COM file, make sure you place it after the following commands: _ The command that starts the queue manager and other queues _ The command that invokes FMS startup _ The command that invokes the network startup command procedure 3-2 After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3.3 Creating Accounts for WPS-PLUS Users To create and maintain accounts for WPS-PLUS users, you must do the following tasks: _ Create and initialize the WPS-PLUS user environment. _ Check user account privileges. _ Check user account quotas. _ Create VMS captive user accounts, if you maintain such accounts. The following sections describe the procedures for these tasks. 3.3.1 WPS-PLUS User Environment If you are installing WPS-PLUS software on your system for the first time, before you set the terminal characteristics, you must create and initialize a WPS-PLUS directory structure for each user, in the user's SYS$LOGIN directory. Do the same for the SYSTEM account. The command procedure WPSPLUS$SYSTEM:WPLNEWUSR.COM creates all required subdirectories and creates or copies all necessary files for each user directory structure you create. To install new user accounts, enter the following command: $ @WPSPLUS$SYSTEM:WPLNEWUSR The WPLNEWUSR command procedure asks you for the user's main directory, and then creates the WPS-PLUS directory, other required subdirectories and required default .DAT files, and a user profile. The following example shows the WPLNEWUSR.COM command procedure creating a WPS-PLUS subdirectory structure for user ROSS on device DUA0: $ @WPSPLUS$SYSTEM:WPLNEWUSR Users SYS$LOGIN [SYS$COMMON:[SYSMGR]]: DUA0:[ROSS] Creating a WPSPLUS directory... Creating REQUIRED subdirectories... Creating REQUIRED default .DAT files.... Creating REQUIRED user profile... Setup Completed for user: DUA0:[ROSS] Do you wish to enter another user (Y/N)? N After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3-3 If every user on your system has a WPS-PLUS account, add the following command to the system SYS$MANAGER:SYLOGIN.COM file to initialize the WPS-PLUS user environment for all users: $ @SYS$MANAGER:WPSPLUS_LOGIN This command procedure does the following tasks: _ Defines the process logical name OAUSER to be the user's default file cabinet, for example, the directory [USER.WPSPLUS]. _ Sets terminal characteristics for WPS-PLUS supported terminals. If all users on your system do not use WPS-PLUS soft- ware, do not add the previous command to the system SYS$MANAGER:SYLOGIN.COM file, and instruct WPS-PLUS users to add the previous command to their individual LOGIN.COM files. 3.3.2 User Account Privileges To use WPS-PLUS software, each account must have at least the TMPMBX privilege. To determine whether users have the privileges they require, use the VMS Authorize Utility. For more information, see the VMS Authorize Utility Manual. 3.3.3 User Account Quotas Make sure that the appropriate user accounts have sufficient quotas to use WPS-PLUS software. Table 3-1 summarizes the required quotas. Table 3-1 WPS-PLUS User Account Quotas _____________________________________________________________ Account_Quota____Value_______________________________________ ASTLM 100 BIOLM 50 BYTLM 36500 DIOLM 50 (continued on next page) 3-4 After Installing WPS-PLUS Software Table 3-1 (Cont.) To verify and change user account quotas, use the Authorize Utility as follows: 1 Set your directory to SYS$SYSTEM and run the Authorize Utility: $ SET DEFAULT SYS$SYSTEM $ RUN AUTHORIZE UAF> 2 At the AUTHORIZE prompt (UAF>), enter the SHOW command with an account name to check a particular account as in the following example: UAF> SHOW ROSS 3 At the AUTHORIZE prompt (UAF>), enter the MODIFY command in the following format to change a quota: UAF> MODIFY account-name /quota-name=nnnn After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3-5 The following example changes the FILLM quota for the ROSS account and exits the utility: UAF> MODIFY ROSS /FILLM=150 UAF> EXIT When you exit the Authorize Utility, the VMS operating system displays messages indicating whether changes were made. Once you have finished making the changes, the users for whom you made changes must log out and log in again for the new quotas to take effect. For more information on modifying account quotas, see the VMS Authorize Utility Manual. 3.3.4 Creating VMS Captive Accounts Captive VMS accounts allow the user access to certain applications, such as WPS-PLUS software, and not to the DCL command language. System managers use the following procedure to create captive accounts: 1 Use the User Authorization Facility (UAF) to create the account as CAPTIVE. For more information on using UAF, see the Guide to VMS System Security. 2 Add the following lines to the captive user's LOGIN.COM file: $ ASSIGN/USER 'F$LOGICAL("SYS$OUTPUT")' SYS$INPUT $ WPSPLUS $ LOGOUT 3 Run WPLNEWUSR.COM to create the WPS-PLUS account if a WPS- PLUS directory structure does not exist for the captive user. 4 Use a command in the following format to copy OAINI_ CAPTIVE.COM into the user's WPS-PLUS directory: $ COPY WPSPLUS$SYSTEM:OAINI_CAPTIVE.COM ddcu:[USERNAME.WPSPLUS]OAINI.COM Substitute for ddcu: the device name of the disk on which the user's account is installed in the previous example. 3-6 After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3.4 Setting Printer Logical Names and Terminal Characteristics Use the PRINTER_SETUP.COM command procedure to set the terminal characteristics for printers on your system supported by WPS-PLUS software. Do not use printer type names, such as LN03 or LA50, to define system logical names for WPS-PLUS printers. Defining system logical names with the same names as the printer types interferes with the WPS-PLUS printing capabilities. Using printer type names to define process logical names, queues, or symbols does not interfere with WPS-PLUS printing capabilities. The PRINTER_SETUP.COM command procedure is optional and is designed for users who are new to the VMS operating system or who are installing WPS-PLUS software on a system where terminal queues have not been defined. The command procedure sets the following values for printer terminals and queues: _ Terminal: /EIGHT_BIT /FORM /HOSTSYNC /LOWER /NOBROADCAST /NOECHO /NOTAB /NOWRAP /PAGE=0 /PASTHRU /PERMANENT /WIDTH=255 _ Queue: /DEFAULT=NOFEED /NOLIBRARY The PRINTER_SETUP.COM command procedure accepts the parameters shown in Table 3-2. After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3-7 Table 3-2 Printer Setup Parameters _____________________________________________________________ Parameter__________________Example___________________________ P1 = Physical connection TTA0: P2 = Baud rate of the 4800 terminal port P3 = Name of queue SYS$PRINT P4 = YES to delete YES existing queue (this parameter is optional)____________________________________________________ To delete an existing queue, enter YES as the P4 parameter. If you do not want to delete an existing queue, omit the P4 parameter. Note You can modify terminal characteristics on an existing queue. You do not need to delete the existing queue. To run the PRINTER_SETUP.COM command procedure, enter a command in the following format, entering the parameters from the Example column in Table 3-2 exactly as shown: $ @WPSPLUS$SYSTEM:PRINTER_SETUP.COM P1 P2 P3 The following procedure shows how to set up your system to use an LQP02 printer. Repeat this procedure for each printer on your system supported by the WPS-PLUS software. 1 Edit SYS$STARTUP:SYSTARTUP_V5.COM. 2 Add the following line as shown to SYSTARTUP_V5.COM: $@WPSPLUS$SYSTEM:PRINTER_SETUP.COM TTC3: 9600 LQP02 _ Add the previous command line after the line $@SYS$STARTUP:WPLSTART.COM and after SYS$PRINT has been defined and started in SYSTARTUP_V5.COM. _ In this example, TTC3: is the terminal line number for this printer on this system. Make sure you use the correct terminal line number for each printer. If you have more than one printer of the same type, each must have a different terminal line number. 3-8 After Installing WPS-PLUS Software _ In this example, SYS$PRINT is the queue name for this printer. If you have more than one printer of the same type, each must have a different queue name. 3.5 Installing WPS-PLUS Software on a VAXcluster You can install WPS-PLUS software on any of three VAXcluster configuration types: _ Computer Interconnect (CI)-only VAXclusters _ Local Area VAXclusters _ Mixed-interconnect VAXclusters For definitions of the cluster types and information specific to installing WPS-PLUS software on each type, see Section 1.6. There must be a single WPS-PLUS directory structure for all nodes in the VAXcluster system. You install WPS-PLUS software on any cluster node, but only on a disk that is shared among all nodes. You must, however, run the WPS- PLUS startup command procedure, SYS$STARTUP:WPLSTART.COM, on all nodes in the cluster on which you want to run WPS-PLUS software. In accordance with the license agreement signed by your site, you must use the VMS License Management Facility (LMF) to register the WPS-PLUS license for each node on your VAXcluster system. The Product Authorization Key (PAK) that is shipped with WPS-PLUS software contains the license registration information. To install WPS-PLUS software and to register the WPS-PLUS licenses on a VAXcluster system, use the following procedure: 1 Set the SYSGEN parameters to the required values on each node in the cluster on which you are going to run WPS-PLUS software. See Section 1.10 for instructions. 2 Install the new DCLTABLES, by entering the following commands: $ INSTALL INSTALL> REPLACE SYS$SHARE:DCLTABLES INSTALL> EXIT After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3-9 3 On each node in the cluster, log in to the SYSTEM account, and load the LMF license using a command in the following format: $ LICENSE LOAD LMF_product_name Substitute the LMF product name for LMF_product_name in the previous example. You do not need to register the product on each node. 4 Log in to the SYSTEM account on the node on which you installed WPS-PLUS for VMS. 5 Edit SYS$STARTUP:SYSTARTUP_V5.COM. 6 Add the following line as one line to SYSTARTUP_V5.COM immediately after the @SYS$STARTUP:WPLSTART.COM command: $@WPSPLUS$SYSTEM:PRINTER_SETUP.COM TTC3: 9600 LQP02 You can use the PRINTER_SETUP.COM command procedure to define printers that are physically attached to specific nodes of a VAXcluster. For more information on this command procedure and on printer setup parameters, see Section 3.4. 7 Optionally, to create additional WPS-PLUS print formatter queues, use the template file WPSPLUS$SYSTEM:WPL$FORMATTER_ START.COM. Use the WPL$FORMATTER_START.COM template to do the following tasks: _ Create execution queues on specific nodes of the cluster. _ Create and start a cluster-wide generic queue from which jobs are moved to active execution queues. _ Start execution queues on specific nodes of the cluster. The template creates execution queues on nodes called NODE1, NODE2, and NODE3, and a cluster-wide generic queue with the queues on NODE1, NODE2, and NODE3 as the target queues. The template then starts the execution queues on nodes NODE1 and NODE2, and on the cluster-wide generic queue. The execution queue on NODE3 is available to be started if neither the NODE1 nor NODE2 execution queue is available. 3-10 After Installing WPS-PLUS Software To create node-specific formatter queues, place comments before these lines in the the SINGLE_CPU section and place a command and comment character ($!) before the second line in the SINGLE_CPU section. To add your own node names in place of NODE1, NODE2, and NODE3, remove the EXIT line located before the template. To delete the WPL$FORMATTER server queue after modifying WPL$FORMATTER_START.COM, enter the following commands: $ STOP/QUEUE/NEXT WPL$FORMATTER $ DELETE/QUEUE WPL$FORMATTER 8 Run the following startup command procedure on each node in the cluster from which you want to run WPS-PLUS software: $ @SYS$STARTUP:WPLSTART.COM ddcu:[WPSPLUS.DATA_SHARE] Substitute for ddcu: the device name of the disk on which you installed WPS-PLUS software in the previous command. 3.6 Rebooting the System You can reboot your system after you have installed WPS-PLUS software, edited the system startup, and reset the system parameters (if necessary). A system reboot does the following tasks: _ Verifies that WPS-PLUS software is ready for use. _ Ensures that the edits to the system startup command file are executed. _ Establishes new parameter settings. 3.7 Changing the WPS-PLUS Device If you move WPS-PLUS software to another disk, or if the logical name for the disk on which WPS-PLUS software was installed originally has changed, make sure all entries in the WPLCONFIG.DAT file are correct. To check the entries, use the following procedure: 1 Copy your [WPSPLUS.DATA_SHARE]WPLCONFIG.DAT file to another directory for safekeeping. 2 Run WPS-PLUS software from a privileged account. After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3-11 3 At the Word and Document Processing menu, enter the following: WPLCONFIG 4 On the System Configuration Information form, press (or ) at the Language field. WPS-PLUS software lists all records that must be checked. 5 For each record on the list do the following tasks: a Select the record. b Use the C (Change) command to change records within this form to conform to the correct device and directory specification. c Exit WPS-PLUS software. 6 If the WPS-PLUS library files are not in the location specified in WPLCONFIG.DAT, move those files to that location. 7 Invoke the WPLSTART.COM startup command procedure in the following format to redefine the logicals to the new WPS- PLUS for VMS area: $ @SYS$STARTUP:WPLSTART.COM ddcu:[WPSPLUS.DATA_SHARE] Substituting for ddcu: the device name of the new disk in the previous example. 3.8 Adding System-wide Common User Rulers Individual ruler sets are defined for each WPS-PLUS user in the file RULERS.DAT in the user's WPS-PLUS directory. There also are system ruler sets shared by all users in the file ddcu:[WPSPLUS.DATA_language]RULERS_SHARED.DAT. To add rulers to the system ruler set in the file RULERS_ SHARED.DAT, use the following procedure: 1 Set the default directory to a WPS-PLUS user directory. 2 Copy the system ruler set file RULERS_SHARED.DAT in the directory ddcu:[WPSPLUS.DATA_language] to the RULERS.DAT file in the user directory. 3 Enter the WPS-PLUS environment, modify the RULERS.DAT file, and exit. 3-12 After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 4 Rename the file RULERS.DAT in the user directory to be the file RULERS_SHARED.DAT in the same directory. 5 Copy the file RULERS_SHARED.DAT in the user directory to the directory ddcu:[WPSPLUS.DATA_language]. For more information on storing rulers, see the WPS-PLUS for VMS User's Reference. After Installing WPS-PLUS Software 3-13 4 ________________________________________________________________ Installation Verification Procedure The Installation Verification Procedure (IVP) for WPS-PLUS software for the VMS operating system, which verifies that WPS-PLUS software was installed successfully and functions correctly, has two phases. Phase 1, which is invoked automatically after the installa- tion, verifies that critical files have been placed in the correct directories. Note If an error message is displayed while you are installing WPS-PLUS software, check the UAF parameters. Many installa- tion errors occur because these parameters are not set high enough. See Table 1-2 for the required settings. Error Message: %DCL-I-IGNQUAL, qualifiers appearing before this item were ignored This error occurs when the WPS symbol is defined at login with language and keyboard qualifiers that conflict with the qualifier selected by the user.
