DIGITAL Read Before Installing or Using VAX PL/I Version 3.4 AV-L444N-TE Whether you are a new or a continuing VAX PL/I customer, take some time to read the following information about your product. If you are installing VAX PL/I Version 3.4 on a newly-licensed node or cluster, you must first register a License Product Authorization Key (License PAK) using the License Management Facility (LMF). The License PAK is shipped along with the kit if you ordered the license and media together; otherwise, it is shipped separately to a location based on your license order. If you are installing VAX PL/I Version 3.4 as an update on a node or cluster already licensed for this software, you must register the Service Update PAK (SUP) that is included in your Service Update Kit. If you already registered a License PAK or a SUP for this product on this node or cluster, you do not need to register the SUP. If you are installing an update of VAX PL/I but lack a service contract, call your Digital representative for instructions on how to get a License PAK. See the VMS License Management Utility Manual for registration instructions. Previous versions of VAX PL/I do not need to be installed before this version. Release Notes Information The online release notes for the latest installed version of VAX PL/I contain new features, a summary of restrictions, incompati- bility issues, and technical changes. 1 You can read the release notes before installing VAX PL/I by invoking VMSINSTAL and following the instructions in your prod- uct's installation guide. You can locate the release notes after installing VAX PL/I by typing the following command at DCL level ($): $ HELP PLI RELEASE_NOTES VAX PL/I Version 3.4 requires VMS Version 5.2. VAX PL/I now performs inline expansion of procedure calls, ships with an optional DECwindows compiler interface, and supports VAX Source Code Analyzer (SCA) Version 2.0 and the VAX Language Sensitive Editor (LSE) Version 3.1. Please see the release notes for more information on these new features. The VAX PL/I manuals have not been updated for this release of VAX PL/I. To install VAX PL/I Version 3.4 and the DECwindows compiler interface, plan to use 7700 blocks during installation. Approx- imately 6500 blocks will be needed permanently. If you do not choose to install the DECwindows compiler interface, you will need approximately 6100 blocks permanently. Contents of This Kit o Indented Bill Report (BIL) and Bill of Materials (BOM) Please read the BIL and BOM enclosed in this kit, and check to see that all items listed are actually in your kit. If your kit is damaged, or if you find that parts of it are missing, call your Digital representative. o Media If you have ordered media, you will find the media and the VAX PL/I Installation Guide in this kit. This guide supplies the information you need to install VAX PL/I on a VMS Version 5.2 or later system. 2 If you are an update customer, you will also receive a Ser- vice Update PAK letter and a PL/I Update Key letter. o Documentation If you are a new VAX PL/I customer, you will find the follow- ing documentation with your order: o VAX PL/I User Manual o VAX PL/I Language Reference Manual The VAX PL/I Installation Guide is included with the media. For update customers, there is no hardcopy documentation with this release. o Software Product Description (SPD) Your SPD provides an overview of the VAX PL/I kit and its features. o System Support Addendum (SSA) The SSA describes the technical environment in which the product is supported. o Software Performance Report (SPR) Use this form to report any problems with VAX PL/I (provided you have purchased warranty services).
