          BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR SOFTWARE KIT
          FOR VAX DEC/MAP Version 3.0

          December 1989

          Dear Customer:

          Enclosed is the VAX DEC/MAP version 3.0 software kit
          and documentation.

          This kit supercedes Digital's VAX DEC/MAP version 2.1
          product and meets the MAP version 3.0 specification.

          It is important to note that there are major differ-
          ences between VAX DEC/MAP version 3.0 and previous
          versions of the product. These differences are caused
          by changes in the MAP version 3.0 specification and
          previous versions of the same specification. Both
          the product and the specification are not backward
          compatible with their respective previous versions.

          Changes to the specification and the product will, most
          likely, require existing applications to be rewritten.

          The components of the VAX DEC/MAP version 3.0 product
          are:

          o  VAX DEC/MAP specific functionality (see the enclosed
             Software Product Description for exact details)

          o  VAX FTAM version 1.1

          o  VAX OSI Transport Service (VOTS) version 2.0

          Your kit includes one software distribution media (TK50
          or MAG tape), containing the savesets for all three
          software components. It also contains documentation:

          o  VAX DEC/MAP Software Installation Guide

          o  VAX DEC/MAP Introduction

          o  VAX DEC/MAP Network Manager's Guide

          o  VAX DEC/MAP MAPI Programmer's Guide

          o  VAX DEC/MAP VOTS Programmer's Guide

          o  VAX DEC/MAP FTAM User's Guide

          o  VAX DEC/MAP VOTS Problem Solving Guide

          o  DTQNA Installation and Maintenance Manual

          Release Notes

          Release notes can be printed out during installation.
          The release notes contain information such as restric-
          tions, incompatibilities, and changes to documentation.
          See the VAX DEC/MAP Software Installation Guide on how
          to access and read the release notes.

          Operating System: VAX/VMS V5.1 or V5.2

          Communications Hardware: IEEE 802.3 or IEEE 802.4
          controller (DTQNA)
