In addition, two RZ23s or the equivalent of 200Mb of disk are required for standalone VAXstation 3100s. An RD54, or equivalent 159MB disk, is required for all other supported, standalone VAXstation and MicroVAX configurations. A TK50 Tape Drive is required for standalone MicroVAX 2000 and VAXstation 2000 systems. Other Hardware Required oo A 200MB disk is the minimum disk configuration. oo Exclusive of operating system requirements, physical memory available on a supported system should amount to no less than two megabytes per simultaneous VAX LISP/VMS user. For optimum performance, this amount of memory should be allocated to each user's working set. oo Use of the VAX LISP/VMS Editor requires a Digital video terminal or a non-Digital terminal supported by the Screen Management Guidelines (SMG) facility. Note: LISP's symbolic processing capabilities make it suitable for applications which can be CPU-cycle intensive. In a heavily loaded environment, VAX LISP/VMS applications can degrade system performance due to this LISP characteristic. Disk space required for installation: Installation of only the VAX LISP/VMS image which includes support for DECwindows: 19,266 blocks (10M bytes) Installation of only the VAX LISP/VMS image which includes support for VWS: 13,746 blocks (7M bytes) Installation of entire VAX LISP/VMS kit which includes support for DECwindows: 93,627 blocks (48M bytes) Disk space required for use (permanent): Installation of only the VAX LISP/VMS image which includes support for DECwindows: 18,804 blocks (9.6M bytes) Installation of only the VAX LISP/VMS image which includes support for VWS: 13,296 blocks (6.9M bytes) Installation of entire VAX LISP/VMS kit which includes support for DECwindows: 92,985 blocks (48M bytes) These counts refer to the disk space required on the system disk. The sizes are approximate; actual sizes may vary depending on the user's system environment, configuration and software options. Memory Requirements for DECwindows Support The minimum supported memory requirement for this application running in a standalone terminal or VWS environment is 8MB. The minimum supported memory requirement for this application running in a standalone DECwindows environment with both the client and server executing on the same system is 14MB. The use of this software in conjunction with increased memory capability improves performance. The memory size for most typical configurations is at least 16MB. OPTIONAL HARDWARE None CLUSTER ENVIRONMENT This layered product is fully supported when installed on any valid and licensed VAXcluster* configuration without restrictions. The HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS sections of this product's Software Product Description and System Support Addendum detail any special hardware required by this product. * V5.x VAXcluster configurations are fully described in the VAXcluster Software Product Description (29.78.xx) and include CI, Ethernet, and Mixed Interconnect configurations. Note: A local disk is recommended for improved performance. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS For Systems using Terminals (No DECwindows interface): VMS Operating System V5.2 - V5.3 For Workstations running VMS Workstation Software (No DECwindows Interface): VMS Operating System V5.2 - V5.3 VMS Workstation Software V4.3 For Workstations running VMS DECwindows: VMS Operating System V5.2 - V5.3 (and the necessary components of VMS DECwindows) This product may run in either of the following ways: oo Stand-alone execution - Running the X11 display server and the client application on the same machine. Remote execution - Running the X11 display server and the client application on different machines. VMS DECwindows is part of the VMS Operating System but must be installed separately. Installation of VMS DECwindows gives you the option to install any or all of the following three components: oo VMS DECwindows Compute Server (Base kit; provides runtime support) oo VMS DECwindows Device Support oo VMS DECwindows Programming Support For stand-alone execution, the following DECwindows components must be installed on the machine: oo VMS DECwindows Compute Server (runtime support) oo VMS DECwindows Device Support oo VMS DECwindows Programming Support For remote execution, the following DECwindows components must be installed on the machines: Server Machine oo VMS DECwindows Device Support Client Machine oo VMS DECwindows Compute Server (runtime support) oo VMS DECwindows Programming Support VMS Tailoring For VMS V5.x systems, the following VMS classes are required for full functionality of this layered product: oo VMS Required Saveset oo Programming Support oo Utilities For more information on VMS classes and tailoring, refer to the VMS Operating System Software Product Description (SPD 25.01.xx). OPTIONAL SOFTWARE None GROWTH CONSIDERATIONS The minimum hardware/software requirements for any future version of this product may be different from the minimum requirements for the current version. A VAX LISP/VMS version update represents a complete distribution media replacement for the previous release. Individual VAX LISP/VMS components in the latest version are incompatible with components in previous versions. Users must recreate suspended systems under new versions of VAX LISP/VMS and will have to recompile user-developed source modules.
