DIGITAL Before You Install or Use DECtrace Version 1.1 AV-PE4JA-TE Whether you are a new or continuing DECtrace customer, please take the time to read the following information about DECtrace Version 1.1. DECtrace Version 1.1 is a maintenance version with the addition of two new important capabilities: the run-time license, and concurrent collections. In addition, significant performance enhancements have been made to the collection and process ac- tivities. These capabilities, and more, are documented in the product release notes found on the software media. Run-Time License If you plan to implement DECtrace on several nodes, you may wish to consider the run-time license. Its cost is significantly less than the cost of the full-development license. The run-time license offers all product capabilities with the exception of the formatting and reporting functions. The collected data can be formatted and reported on a node where the DECtrace full- development license is registered and loaded. Concurrent Collections Concurrent collections allows you to schedule collections so that more than one may be running simultaneously on a node or VAXcluster. If you have designed operations procedures around the previous limitation of one collection per node at any given time, you may want to re-evaluate those procedures for this release. Installation Before installing DECtrace Version 1.1 read the DECtrace for VMS Installation Guide for information about this installation kit, prerequisites, and procedures, as well as the VMS quota and privilege requirements. Contents of This Kit Kit contents vary depending upon whether this kit is a complete media-and-documentation kit, a documentation-only kit, or a service-update kit. Please read the Indented Bill Report (BIL) and the Bill of Materials (BOM) enclosed in this shipment, and check to see that all items listed are actually in your kit. If your kit is damaged, or if you find that parts of it are missing, please call your Digital representative. Release Notes The online release notes for the latest installed version of DECtrace contain new features, a summary of technical issues, restrictions, and incompatibility issues. You can read the release notes before installing DECtrace by invoking VMSINSTAL and following the instructions in Chapter 2 of the DECtrace for VMS Installation Guide. Companion Software If you have purchased DECtrace to gather VAX Rdb/VMS performance data, you may wish to also consider purchasing DEC RdbExpert for VMS.
