Before You Install VAX DATATRIEVE Version 5.1

   This package contains the VAX DATATRIEVE software and installa-
   tion instructions. The VAX DATATRIEVE software is also referred
   to as DATATRIEVE.

   Follow these steps to install DATATRIEVE on your VAX/VMS system:

   1. Read the Bill of Materials (BOM) enclosed in the transpar-
      ent plastic envelope. Check that all listed items are in
      your kit. If any items are missing, contact your Digital
      representative.

   2. Make sure that the required Product Authorization Key (PAK)
      is registered and loaded. See the VMS License Management
      Utility Manual for more information.

      Effective with VAX DATATRIEVE Version 5.0, the User Based
      License (UBL) for using VAX DATATRIEVE has changed with
      respect to its relationship with VAX CDD/Plus. Customers
      who purchased a UBL for VAX DATATRIEVE prior to Version 5.0,
      and who are not separately licensed for VAX CDD/Plus should
      contact their Digital Service Representative or their Digital
      Sales Representative.

   3. Make sure that the following required products are already
      installed:

      -  VAX/VMS (Version 5.3 or higher)

      -  VAX CDD/Plus (Version 4.2 or higher)[*]

   4. Install the following optional software products in the order
      listed:

      -  VAX Language-Sensitive Editor (LSE)
         Version 1.3 or higher for character-cell terminals
         Version 3.1 or higher for workstations running DECwindows

     of-installation instructions provided with VAX CDD/Plus.

 






      -  VAX DBMS (Version 4.2 or higher)

      -  VAX Rdb/VMS (Version 3.1A or higher)[*]

      -  VAX Rdb/ELN (Version 2.1 or higher)

      -  VAX TDMS (Version 1.9 or higher)

      -  VAX FMS (Version 2.3 or higher)

      -  VIDA for DB2 (Version 1.0 or higher)

   5. Install VAX DATATRIEVE by following the instructions in the
      VAX DATATRIEVE Installation Guide.

   6. See the VAX DATATRIEVE Release Notes for new features in
      DATATRIEVE Version 5.1.
      See the DATATRIEVE online Help topic, New_Features, for
      descriptions of new features in DATATRIEVE since Version
      3.0.

   7. Look in SYS$HELP:DTR051.RELEASE_NOTES for an online version
      of the Release Notes.

      You can also print the online version of the Release Notes
      during the installation procedure. For instructions, see
