Patch Kit Instruction for VAX DATATRIEVE Version 5.1

This patch kit is for VAX DATATRIEVE Version 5.1.

This patch kit: 

o   Modifies the DATATRIEVE library contained in DTR$LIBRARY:DTRLIB.OLB 
    substituting one of its modules 

o   Rebuilds the DATATRIEVE images

The new DATATRIEVE images have no new functionality; instead they use 
a different strategy for accessing the CDD/Plus dictionary to ready a 
VAX DBMS database.

With the current DATATRIEVE version, a performance problem appears
when you ready a VAX DBMS database which contains large subschemas that are 
stored in a CDO format dictionary.

When the new DATATRIEVE images are used with CDD/Plus Version 4.3 or higher,
there is a performance enhancement.

The data manipulation operations are not changed in any way and are
unaffected by this patch.

This patch is not mandatory.

The version number is unchanged.

Directions for the Installation of the Patch

1) Run the VMSINSTAL procedure specifying DTRP051 as the product name 
   and the patch kit file location.

The procedure checks:

   -  The VAX/VMS operating system version. You must have Version 5.1 or 
      higher installed on your system.

   -  The presence of the VAX DATATRIEVE library DTRLIB.OLB in 
      DTR$LIBRARY. If DTRLIB.OLB is not found, you are requested to
      re-install VAX DATATRIEVE Version 5.1, to put the DATATRIEVE library in
      DTR$LIBRARY.

   -  The existence of at least 1000 free blocks of memory in the system disk.

   -  The version of VAX CDD/Plus. You must have Version 4.3 or higher 
      installed on your system.

   -  The version of VAX DBMS. You must have Version 4.1 or higher installed 
      on your system.

All checks must be positive to continue the installation.

The procedure then looks for VAX DATATRIEVE images in SYS$SYSTEM. It 
specifically searches for those images starting with DTR32 and having a suffix
of 1- to 26-character that you specified during the original installation time.
The procedure then prompts you for the image to patch.

Note that:

   -  If no images are found, the procedure stops.

   -  If one or more images exist, only one can be patched.
      The other images must be patched by running again the patch
      procedure.

2) Enter the name of the DATATRIEVE image to be patched.

   The procedure then checks that image to verify it is a Version 5.1.

   You are then prompted for the forms manager product (FMS or TDMS, if any)
   to be linked with VAX DATATRIEVE.

3) Enter the name of the forms manager product or, if you do not have any,
   enter NONE. 

   In addition to the VAX DATATRIEVE image you specify, the patch
   procedure re-links all the other images that have the same 1- to 26-character
   suffix of the image you indicate. These images are:

   - The VAX DATATRIEVE shareable image.

   - The DDMF image.

   - The DTRHELP image.
