DIGITAL Read Before Installing or Using DECdesign Version 1.1 AV-PABTC-TE Please take time to read the following information about your product. Licensing Before you install and run DECdesign Version 1.1 on a newly-licensed node or cluster, you must first register one or more License Product Authorization Keys (License PAKs) using the License Management Facility (LMF). The License PAKs may be shipped along with the kit if you ordered the license and media together; otherwise, they are shipped separately to a location based on your license order. If you are installing DECdesign as an update on a node or cluster already licensed for this software, we recommend that you upgrade your PAK to reflect licensing changes. (See Section 2.3 of the DECdesign release notes for more information.) By upgrading to the Version 1.1 PAKs, you will be able to take advantage of modular releases as they become available in the future. Existing Version 1.0 customers can still use their DECDESIGN PAK to access the DECdesign platform and the Yourdon and Gane & Sarson techniques for DECdesign Vesion 1.1. However, it is to your benefit to upgrade to the new PAKs. You should contact your local Field office in order to change your service contract to the new part numbers to ensure support and future upgrades. See the VMS License Management Utility Manual for registration instructions. Page 2 Converting Existing Libraries If you are currently using DECdesign Version 1.0 and you intend to use existing design libraries with DECde- sign Version 1.1, you must extract your libraries using DECdesign Version 1.0 and load them into DECdesign Ver- sion 1.1. If you use the Yourdon technique, you must also convert your extract file before loading it into Version 1.1. Do not run Gane & Sarson libraries through the converter. See Section 3.1 of the DECdesign release notes for detailed information on migrating your design libraries from Version 1.0 to Version 1.1. Prerequisite Software DECdesign Version 1.1 requires VMS Version 5.4 or higher, CDD/Plus Version 4.3 or higher, and Rdb/VMS Version 3.1B or higher installed on your system. (We strongly recommend using Rdb/VMS Version 4.0 with DECdesign Version 1.1 for performance reasons.) Note that the DECdesign Installation Guide and the DECdesign release notes incorrectly state that DECdesign requires Rdb/VMS Version 4.0. DECdesign Version 1.1 is compatible with CDD/Repository Version 5.0. However, you need to follow a different series of installation steps if you plan to install DECdesign on a system with CDD/Repository Version 5.0. Page 3 Installing DECdesign on a System with Rdb/VMS Version 3.1B To use DECdesign Version 1.1 with Rdb/VMS Version 3.1B, follow these steps after you install DECdesign: 1. For each DECdesign template stored in the template directories (DES$PREDEFINED:DES$*.DIR), you must export the Rdb/VMS database using the following commands: $ DEFINE template_dir your_device$:[your_dir_spec] $ rdo = "$SYS$SYSTEM:RDO.EXE" $ RDO EXPORT template_dir:cdd$database - INTO template_dir:cdd$database.export Substitute the directory specification for your DECdesign template libraries for your_device$:[your_ dir_spec]-for example, SYS$COMMON:[SYSLIB.DESLIB.DES$YOURDON]. 2. Delete the CDD$DATABASE.RDB and the CDD$DATABASE.SNP files located in the template directory: $ DELETE/CONFIRM/LOG template_dir:CDD$DATABASE.RDB;1 $ DELETE/CONFIRM/LOG template_dir:CDD$DATABASE.SNP;1 3. Recreate the Rdb/VMS database: $ RDO RDO> IMPORT template_dir:CDD$DATABASE.EXPORT cont> INTO template_dir:CDD$DATABASE cont> ALLOCATION IS 850 PAGES ! preallocation cont> PAGE SIZE IS 16 BLOCKS ! in vms blocks cont> BUFFER SIZE IS 48 ! 3 X page size cont> NUMBER OF BUFFERS 30 ! no. of buffers cont> SNAPSHOT ALLOCATION IS 1 PAGES ! initial file size cont> NOACL DICTIONARY IS NOT USED cont> END IMPORT. RDO> ! ^--- Note final period. RDO> EXIT Page 4 4. Delete the EXPORT file created with the RDO EXPORT command: $ DELETE/CONFIRM/LOG template_dir:cdd$database.export;* 5. Add Access Control Lists (ACLs) and protections on the Rdb/VMS database files created with the IMPORT command: $ SET ACL template_dir:cdd$database.rdb - /ACL=((IDENTIFIER=CDD$SYSTEM, - ACCESS=READ+WRITE+EXECUTE+DELETE+CONTROL), - (IDENTIFIER=[*,*],ACCESS=READ))/NEW $ SET ACL template_dir:cdd$database.snp - /ACL=((IDENTIFIER=CDD$SYSTEM, - ACCESS=READ+WRITE+EXECUTE+DELETE+CONTROL), - (IDENTIFIER=[*,*],ACCESS=READ))/NEW $ SET PROTECTION=OWNER template_dir:cdd$database.rdb $ SET PROTECTION=OWNER template_dir:cdd$database.snp) Note: When upgrading from Rdb/VMS Version 3.1B to Rdb/VMS Version 4.0 after you have installed DECdesign Version 1.1, you must reinstall DECdesign. See Section 3 of the DECdesign Version 1.1 release notes before upgrading to Rdb/VMS Version 4.0. Release Notes Information The release notes for DECdesign Version 1.1 contain im- portant installation-related instructions and a summary of known problems, performance issues, documentation and online help errors, restrictions, and incompati- bilities. Do not install DECdesign without reading the release notes first. You can read the release notes before installing DECde- sign by invoking VMSINSTAL and following the instruc- tions that start the installation procedure. You can also read release notes following the installation of DECdesign by typing: Page 5 $ HELP DECDESIGN RELEASE_NOTES Contents of This Kit o Indented Bill Report (BIL) and Bill of Materials (BOM) Please read the BIL and BOM enclosed in this kit and check to see that all items listed are actually in your kit.
