Processors Not Supported VAX-11/725, VAX-11/782, MicroVAX I, VAXstation I, VAXstation 8000 Processor Restrictions DECwrite operates on any of the above supported processors but a VAXstation or a DECwindows display device is required for display. Refer to the Display Device section for supported display devices. Block Space Requirements (Block Cluster Size = 1): 2 DECwrite/NORSK for VMS, V1.1 SSA 25.S3.01-A Disk space required for 32,800 blocks installation: (16.4 Mbytes) Disk space required for 29,600 blocks use (permanent): (14.8 Mbytes) These counts refer to the disk space required on the system disk. The sizes are approximate; actual sizes may vary depending on the user's system environment, configuration, and software options. Memory Requirements A minimum of 8M bytes of memory is required on a workstation to operate DECwrite and VMS whether DECwrite is running on the workstation or on another processor. A minimum of 3M bytes of memory is required on a VT1200 to display DECwrite. OPTIONAL HARDWARE DECwrite files can be printed using any Digital Post- Script printer, ScriptPrinter, (LN03R), PrintServer 20, PrintServer 40 or PrintServer 40 Plus. The DECchart component of DECwrite produces both monochrome and color PostScript[R]. Monochrome PostScript can be printed using any Digital PostScript printer as listed above. If the DEC GKS product or runtime system, and the CDA Converter Library is installed, then the DDIF Graphics Hardcopy converter can be used to generate the color and monochrome sixel formats (printed on the Digital LJ250 Companion Color Printer) and the HPGL[TM] format (printed on the Digital LVP16). If the DECprint Utility for PostScript to Sixel Printing for VMS is installed, then DECchart PostScript output (either color or monochrome) can be printed on the LJ250 Companion Color Printer. 3 DECwrite/NORSK for VMS, V1.1 SSA 25.S3.01-A DECwrite will accept images scanned with the MD-300 Scanner. CLUSTER ENVIRONMENT This layered product is fully supported when installed on any valid and licensed VAXcluster* configuration without restric- tions. The HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS sections of this product's Software Product Description and System Support Addendum detail any special hardware required by this product. * V5.x VAXcluster configurations are fully described in the VAXcluster Software Product Description (29.78.xx) and in- clude CI, Ethernet and Mixed Interconnect configurations. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS VMS Operating System V5.3* - V5.4 (and necessary components of VMS DECwindows) * Note: VMS V5.3 does not support Display PostScript[R] exten- sions. This product may run in either of the following ways: o Stand-alone execution - Running the X11 display server and the client application on the same machine. o Remote execution - Running the X11 display server and the client application on different machines. VMS DECwindows is part of the VMS Operating System but must be installed separately. Installation of VMS DECwindows gives the user the option to install any or all of the following three components: o VMS DECwindows Compute Server (Base kit; includes runtime support) o VMS DECwindows Device Support o VMS DECwindows Programming Support 4 DECwrite/NORSK for VMS, V1.1 SSA 25.S3.01-A For stand-alone execution, the following DECwindows components must be installed on the machine: o VMS DECwindows Compute Server (Base kit; includes runtime support) o VMS DECwindows Device Support For remote execution, the following DECwindows components must be installed on the machine: Server Machine and Client Machine o VMS DECwindows Compute Server (runtime support) o VMS DECwindows Device Support VMS Tailoring For VMS 5.x, the following VMS classes are required for full functionality of this layered product: o VMS Required Saveset Optional: o Network Support - required for cluster or server systems o Utilities - required for mail For more information on VMS classes and tailoring, refer to the VMS Operating System Software Product Description (SPD 25.01.xx). PC DECwindows Display Facility The PC DECwindows Display Facility is an MS-DOS[R] application that implements an X server that uses the industry-standard X Window System, Version 11 (X11) protocol. DECwrite executing on a remote VMS system with DECnet may be displayed on and receive input from the personal computer. The PC DECwindows Display Facility is supported only on Intel 80286 and 80386 machines.
