ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing is an application that provides ALL-IN-1 users with a conferencing system for online discussions. Members of a conference can discuss items of interest by leaving messages for the other members to access, read, and reply to, at their own convenience. ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing provides online Release Notes. Digital recommends that you print and read the ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing Release Notes before proceeding with the installation. Also, for all languages, except English, there is a Read Me First. You must read this before proceeding. 1.1 Required Operating System Components For VMS Version 5.1 and later systems, ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing requires that your system is running a full, untailored VMS system. Preparing to Install 1-1 1.2 Examining the Distribution Kit To make sure that you have a complete kit, check the contents of the kit against the bill of materials. The software distribution kit consists of one of the following types of media: o 9-track 1600 bits/in magnetic tape o TK50 cartridge o Compact disk (CD) The kit contains all the files listed in Appendix A. The CD Consolidated Software Distribution kit also contains the following online documentation, in ASCII text format: o ALL-IN-1 Read Me First, if you have a language version other than English o ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing Installation and Management Guide o ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing Release Notes 1.3 Hardware Checklist Check that you have the following hardware and disk space to do the installation. 1 Check that the ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing distribution kit is complete and correct, according to the bill of materials included with the kit. 2 Check that you have the disk space required, given in Section 1.8.3. 3 To do the installation, you are recommended to use the system console or a hardcopy terminal, so that you have a hardcopy record of the installation. However, you can use a video terminal. Note If you are installing ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing in a VAXcluster environment, see Chapter 4. 1-2 Preparing to Install 1.4 Software Checklist Check that the following software is available on the system: o VMS Version 5.1 (or higher). o The VMSINSTAL command procedure. o ALL-IN-1 Version 2.4 with the same language installed as the language of your ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing kit. The ALL-IN-1 Version 2.4 language can be either the default language or an additional language. o VAX Notes Version 2.0 (or higher). Note If your users have access to conferences on another system, that system must be running VAX Notes Version 1.3, or higher. Also, check that: o Your ALL-IN-1 startup command procedure has been executed since ALL-IN-1 Version 2.4 was installed, or since your system was last rebooted. o The ALL-IN-1 directory OA$BUILD is available, and contains all the components used to build ALL-IN-1. These include the command procedures A1LINK.COM and A1LNKASK.COM. A1LINK.COM is replaced when ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing is installed. Therefore, if you have modified A1LINK.COM, copy it to the OA$SITE_BUILD_SHARE directory before you install ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing. Check also that OA$BUILD contains the answers file A1LINK.ANS, specifying the answers you used in the latest installation of ALL-IN-1. If A1LINK.ANS is not present, make a note of the answers you used during that installation to link ALL-IN-1 with any optional products. 1.5 Information Checklist Complete the following information checks. 1 Check that NOTES$SHARE.EXE is installed as known image: $ INSTALL INSTALL> LIST SYS$SHARE:NOTES$SHARE Preparing to Install 1-3 If NOTES$SHARE.EXE is not installed, install it as follows: INSTALL> CREATE SYS$SHARE:NOTES$SHARE /OPEN /SHARED - _INSTALL> /HEADER_RES INSTALL> EXIT If there is an entry for NOTES$SHARE.EXE, check that the display shows the following information: NOTES$SHARE Open Hdr Shar If the display does not show this information, change the way that NOTES$SHARE.EXE is installed as follows: INSTALL> REPLACE SYS$SHARE:NOTES$SHARE /OPEN /SHARED - _INSTALL> /HEADER_RES INSTALL> EXIT 2 Check the location of the ALL-IN-1 library directory, OA$LIB. 1.6 VMS License Management Facility The VMS License Management Facility (LMF) is available with Version 5.1 of the VMS operating system. If you are installing ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing on a VMS V5.1 (or higher) system, you must have a valid ALL-IN-1 license for your ALL-IN-1 Version 2.4 system. See the ALL-IN-1 Installation Guide Part 1 Base Installation for details. 1.7 Installing an Additional Language You can install additional language versions of ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing. The installation steps are the same as those for a full installation, except that you should select option 2 at STEP 9 (see Chapter 2). Note You must have the same ALL-IN-1 Version 2.4 language installed on your system as the ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing language to be installed. 1.8 Installation Procedure Requirements The following sections discuss various requirements for installing ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing. 1-4 Preparing to Install 1.8.1 Time The ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing installation procedure takes between 30 and 60 minutes to complete, depending on your type of media and your system configuration. 1.8.2 Privileges Install ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing from the VMS system manager's account with full privileges. Note that VMSINSTAL turns off BYPASS privilege at the start of the installation. 1.8.3 Disk Space Installing ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing requires a certain amount of free storage space during the installation. Once ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing is installed, less disk space is required. Table 1-1 summarizes the disk space requirements for the English language version of ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing. The disk space is in addition to that used by your ALL-IN-1 system. For other language versions, refer to the Read Me First provided for your language. The disk space is given for each ALL-IN-1 area. The file is renamed to OAFORM_V24.FLB during the installation. ++ These values are for the English language version of ALL-IN-1 Version 2.4. If you have additional languages, find the disk space used by these files for each language installed; the disk space required for these files is about ###### (2xsize)+100, where size is the size (in blocks) of the files before installation. ________________________________________________________________ To determine the number of free blocks on the current system disk, enter the following command: $ SHOW DEVICE SYS$SYSDEVICE If your ALL-IN-1 system is installed on a disk (or disks) other than SYS$SYSDEVICE, determine the disk space on the appropriate disk as follows: $ SHOW DEVICE device 1.8.4 System Parameters For the values of the system parameters, and how to change them, refer to the ALL-IN-1 Installation Guide. Preparing to Install 1-7 1.8.5 Process Account Quotas The account you use to install ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing must have sufficient process account quotas to enable you to perform the installation. For the values of the quotas, and how to change them, refer to the ALL-IN-1 Installation Guide Part 1 Base Installation. 1.8.6 VMSINSTAL Requirements When you invoke VMSINSTAL, it checks the following: o Whether you have set your default device and directory to SYS$UPDATE o Whether you have logged in to a privileged account o Whether you have adequate quotas for installation o If your system is running VMS Version 5.1, whether DECnet is running o Whether any users are logged in to the system If VMSINSTAL detects any problems during the installation, it notifies you of the problem and asks if you want to continue the installation. In some instances, you can enter YES to continue. To stop the installation process and correct the situation, enter NO or press RETURN. Then correct the problem and restart the installation. 1.8.7 Backing Up Your System Disk At the beginning of the installation, VMSINSTAL asks if you have backed up your system disk. Digital recommends that you do a system disk backup before installing any software on top of the operating system. Use the backup procedures that have been established at your site. For details on performing a system disk backup, refer to the VMS Backup Utility documentation. 1.8.8 ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing Requirements The ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing installation procedure checks that the following software is installed: o VMS Version 5.1 (or higher) o ALL-IN-1 Version 2.4, with the same language that you want to install with ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing 1-8 Preparing to Install o VAX Notes Version 2.0 Note If your users have access to conferences on another system, that system must be running VAX Notes Version 1.3, or higher. 1.9 Final Preparations Before starting the installation: 1 Make sure no users are logged in to the VMS system on which ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing is to be installed. If you are installing ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing in a VAXcluster where the ALL-IN-1 image and library directory are shared between nodes, all ALL-IN-1 activity on each node of the cluster must be disabled and all users logged out of ALL-IN-1. This ensures that the following files are available exclusively for update access during installation: OA$LIB_LLV:OAFORM.FLB OA$LIB_LLV:OAHELP.HLB 2 Back up the system disk. 3 Check that all ALL-IN-1 logical names have been set up. Enter $ @SYS$MANAGER:A1V24START device:[directory.DATA_SHARE] where device:[directory.DATA_SHARE] is the location of the ALL-IN-1 configuration file, A1CONFIG.DAT. 4 If you have customized the files OAGBL.BLI and OASYMMSG.MAR, you must copy them to the OA$SITE_BUILD_ SHARE directory, since the installation of ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing replaces these files. After ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing is installed, apply your customizations to the new versions of these files. You must then relink your ALL-IN-1 system. Preparing to Install 1-9 2 ________________________________________________________________ Installation This chapter describes how to install ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing. Section 2.2 contains a step-by-step description of the installation procedure. For those steps that require you to input information, enter the information in the space provided, before you start the installation. The last section covers post-installation considerations. 2.1 General Information This section includes information about accessing ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing Release Notes, determining which files and logical names have been added to your system, running the Installation Verification Procedure (IVP), and aborting the installation. 2.1.1 Accessing the Online Release Notes The ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing Release Notes are included in the Release Notes for ALL-IN-1 Version 2.4.
